...et Libera nos a Malo

God - Noun
1. the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe.
So who is God, we ask? It's a difficult question, and everyone has their own answer. You didn't ask my definition, however, I can often understand my own beliefs more clearly by writing them down.
I have this little voice in my head. Rather than my brain, my fingers or my toes, this little voice is what I perceive to be Me. This little voice is my God. When I want an answer, I don't hear a bearded man shouting down from the clouds. Instead I hear the little voice in my head that always knows the right thing to do, if only I'll listen. My God is everything great and loving and magnanimous that I aspire to be. My completely selfless thought. My little hero in me, whom I wish would saturate me completely. God harbors no fault, for God is an idea of purity and grace, not an individual. This is God, this is The Almighty, lacking vanity. This God deserves worship, but is too humble to ask. All it requires is a listening ear. To worship this idea is not to visit Church every Sunday, but to stay true to it to your utmost capacity. To spread the word of God is to spread kindness and understanding. You should not fear divine punishment, for this God feels no animosity, an idea cannot be jealous. However, living by this idea will protect you from the suffering that will assuredly come to you from denying your God, not in your afterlife, but in this one, the here and now, which is all that I know of.
I believe hateful feelings towards another is simply seeing negativity in others that you see in yourself. To worship this idea is to love all that is good in yourself, and if you'll realize with me that we are all one, you will be further inclined to love and understand others. You cannot change others, but you can always change yourself. So, instead of telling people what is right, show them. I have discovered that if you make a positive impact, others will learn by example and follow suit.
On the contrary, my Anti-God, my Satan, Belial, Apollyon, Abaddon, etc- is everything I dislike about myself. These are merely titles bestowed upon my selfish desire, dishonest impulse, and violent nature. Everything inside of me that I wish to purge from my being, instead of some fiery man with horns and a barbed tail, although both should be thus equally avoided.
As for the afterlife, I know naught, and I shall never worry about it. I'm in the living world, the here and now. I wish to stay true to my endearing soul in the living world, and the afterlife will inevitably come next. I do hope it isn't as complicated.
On a side note, as far as idols go, I prefer Buddha. He seems to know what's up. Then again, I've never gotten around to reading any holy scripture of any kind, so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

:) I believe we share the same thoughts, Mr. Klein.
And you should come to temple with me sometime. You would like it greatly.
Meditation and reaching inside of yourself is much better than half asleep in a Catholic church listening to a simple man believe he is superior because he is a messenger of God.
If God truly loves us, he would never force us under such a dictatorship-like religion and treat us all equally and let ourselves choose what we really believe is right and wrong.

Son, you are blinded by The Devil. He wants you to think there is no God, and it empowers Satan when you think you are all-powerful and the answer is within yourself. Like a lamb in a flock of sheep, The Lord is our shepherd, and He will Deliver us from Evil. Son, you are mighty confused; The Lord IS a jealous God, and if you deny Him, He will deny you passage into heaven. There is only one way to everlasting paradise. And it is through Him. All you have to do, no matter your race, ethnicity, or orientation, whether you be rich, poor, big or small, is tickle Jesus Christ's sack. Do not deny Him, or he will send you to a hot and fiery inferno where dark creatures want to sell you things for a cheap price. It's called Tijuana, Mexico. This is your last chance son. Your last chance, to buy a necklace that you saw at the last fifty stores; but since you are white you have plenty of money and no perception of the fact that everyone is trying to sell you the same thing. Let them show you, Alec.
Let them show you.
Did that picturesque view of Christianity frighten you? I do apologize. The point I meant to make was the fact that it sounds absolutely plum crazy. Think I blew it out of proportion? Think again. Go read the actual parables The Holy Book contains and my rendition of Christianity will seem as normal as two chimpanzees playing chess with their feces.
Everything you said is true by the way.
Buddha did know what's up. At least, after Enlightenment He did. He was born into royalty, but material wealth was not the ultimate goal in life, according to Him. He was shielded from religion and human suffering by His father, who only wanted Him to grow up to be a powerful king. But Buddha saw the suffering of His subjects, and took on the life of an ascetic (a life-style characterized by abstinence from various sorts of worldly pleasures). Sitting under a tree, He vowed never to rise until He found The Truth. After over a month of this, he became ...Enlightened. The Awakened One had found The Truth. He realized complete awakening and insight into the nature and cause of human suffering which is ignorance, along with steps necessary to eliminate it. His insights are highlighted in The Four Noble Truths and The Nine Characteristics; you might be interested in learning more about those. Siddhārtha Gautama Buddha's final words were: "All composite things pass away. Strive for your own liberation with diligence." I think we can all learn something from this wise Man-God, in whom millions have placed their faith -- for longer than the existence of the Christian faith, I might add -- up until this very present day. Buddha was not a jealous god. He was a man who rid Himself of such petty emotions as jealousy, and through the Voice in His Head that bellowed "Wake Up!" managed to convey The Truth; the key to peace for all of humanity.

Alec, I love your personality and your critical thinking. You find a way to be an individual even when you are talking about God.
Being an atheist, I'm not going to spew a bunch of anti-God rants on your blog. Your writing encouraged me to think more about things I feel I am so "right" about. You seem like a very spiritual person, but you don't belong on your knees on Sunday morning.
:)
