The topic is communication, something that has always fascinated me perhaps because my identical twin and I had our own language for the first two years before we learned to talk to others.

I met a woman recently who is deaf and suffering a degenerative disease that makes her shakey.  She told me she stayed in a 34 year abusive marriage because she felt it was God's will.  Through the years she tried to listen attentiively to her husband but her mind often drifted.  He would yell at  her, "You didn't  hear what I said?  What's the matter?  Are you deaf?"

I could see her temble as she related the experience.
