May 2010, I will be among the living and the dead.  I will march with my fellow students,friends,  brothers, sisters JEWS. 
We will hold our breath as we cross the threshold of the camp and make our way from Auschwitz to Birkeanu. 
We will be united in our quest to learn, understand and remember so they we can prevent history from repeating itself. 

"Arbeit Macht Frei,"
The words, german symbols on the gate of a place so horrible that it brings tears to the eyes of its survivors as they try to tell us their story. 
Work sets you free?  Then why did my great uncle work every day of his life in those camps, and then perish at the hands of the Nazis, why did my grandmother have to watch the Nazi patrol border guard hold a gun to her fathers had and say to her "would you like me to shoot him for you"
And there are those who deny it ever happened!? 
Look at the pictures, read the books, watch the movies. 
we promised ourselves that it would never happen again and now look at Rwanda, look at Darfur.  Are you going to start denying those too?

We will retrace the steps of those forced to set out on the Death Marches. 
The marches during the cold winter months when the prisoners of the camps could barely call the coverings on their feet shoes, when they were bone and skin and nothing more, where you were only given a tiny morsel of bread in the very begginning and nothing else during the entire duration of a trek  ranging from 35 to 500 miles. If you couldnt keep up you were shot dead on the spot
and the rest had to keep moving or they would be shot too. 

As we march in the footsteps  of our grandparents and greatgrandparents we will know.  We will feel the sense of community and unity in our common goal of remembrance and making sure that this never happens again.  The Nazi's will know, alive or dead, that they tried and failed to obliterate my people.  Tried and failed to annihilate my fellow jews.  We will sing our song as we walk the march of the LIVING.  and they will know, they will know as we sing the song of the partisans that they failed.  they will know as we scream ANACHNU PO!!  WE ARE HERE AND YOU FAILED, YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THE JEWISH PEOPLE.

you. hitler and your nazi's tried so hard with your concentration camps, and ghettos, and death marches to kill us and yet we are here today marching for all those who died and all those who survive and must live with the yellow numbers tatooed on their arms, gunshot wounds, memories that bring tears to their eyes.

we will sing the words of Hirsh Glik:

to you, deniers of the holocaust, "We will march to make a better world for all humanity" we will march to show you how wrong you are.  We will march to remember and to make sure NEVER EVER AGAIN
