| Do you read like I do? (Potential Spoiler if you h |
I was reading It by Stephen King yesterday and slowly as I began reading I was no longer in my bed staring at the pages of a book but rather I was floating above a room staring down at a man slicing into his own wrists in his bathtub full of now pink water and I jumped as I and his wife came to terms with the fact that Stan had actually killed himself...and the laughter of my boyfriend snatches me out of the pages and back to my bed where I had physically been startled by Kings typed word. He didn't understand how someone can physically react to a book. When I read, I am doing more that streaming lines of text into my brain to create a mental picture and conceptualize what is going on, I am IN the book. I become completely engulfed in the story, the characters, the whole setting becomes my world and the real world is out of my realm. It is the most amazing and wonderful feeling, its like escaping without going anywhere at all. I used to think I was crazy and then I read Michael Ende's Neverending Story and Cornelia Funke's Inkheart and I realized there are people out there that read with the same intesity that I do, and they create characters like Sebastian and Meggie to try to convey to others the reality that consumes you when you indulge in a book. Yes, I am a geeky bookworm. No, most people may not experience a book the way I do. I press myself into those pages and I never forget a character, a story, anything, that book is now a part of me. Quality? I think quality is a matter of opinion, I read Stephen King, I read Poe, and I read Common Sense. No two authors are the same, but every one of them has a story to tell, and I intend to live as many of them as I can.
