 Fermoy for Nana
So I was supposed to have flown home on Monday, but ended up moving my flight so that I could get in a few extra days in Ireland...which was a great idea!!! Kelsie (my cousin) and I had planned to meet on Monday to go to Fermoy, a small town just under an hour away from Cork. There's a church there where a mass was said for our grandma (Nana) last year when she passed away. Since we were both in Ireland, Kelsie and I decided we had to go. Nana loved champagne, so we decided to take a bottle and toast her outside the church.

I got up early on Monday, showered, and got ready to go to Fermoy. I was checking out of my hostel that day, so I had to take my backpack with me to Fermoy, as I would be going to Killarney that night. So I packed up and headed out. I decided I had time to buy our champagne, so I did. I think the sales clerk thought I was nuts, buying two bottles of champagne at 10am on a Monday...oh well!!! I then met up with Kelsie at the bus station. We bought tickets to Fermoy, and went out to wait for our bus. It got there, and after a little ticket confusion, we were on our way. On the drive, Kelsie and I drew some special labels for our champagne bottles, so that they would say Korbel on them.

Upon arriving in Fermoy, we asked a Garda (a policeman) where we could find St. Patrick's church. He pointed us in the direction, and we walked a few minutes until we arrived. It was a really beautiful church built on a hill near some Catholic schools, where you could hear kids playing. The church was absolutely lovely!! Kelsie and I took some photos outside of it and around it, and then headed inside. It was gorgeous!!! White, green, blue, and wooden pews...amazing stained glass, and just a really bright interior. Nana would have loved it! We took more photos, looked around, and tried to see if a priest would wander in...he didn't. So we went outside to toast Nana. We went to the side of the church, pulled out our champagne bottles, and took a few more photos. Then, we popped off the corks and toasted Nana outside the church on an adjacent street. We looked around for a place to drink some, but there weren't any parks nearby that we could find, so we just sat on a sidewalk against a building a sipped away until it began to rain. Then, we had to leave!!! We poured out the rest of our champagne and headed into the little town.

We found a pub where we could take shelter, and so we headed inside. We were the only girls...hmmm. We each got a pint, and watched horse racing on tv, which got a little competitive! Eventually, we decided to leave and try to find something warm to eat. As we got up to leave, one of the guys at the bar said "you're leaving?". He hadn't even been looking at us or talking to us, but was now wondering why we were leaving? Kelsie and I had a good laugh about that!!!  We did, in fact, leave, and found a restaurant nearby called Annie's. We went in, and got some warm food! We each got some veggie soup to start, and then Kelsie got the all-day breakfast. I got bacon and cabbage, which was AWESOME!!!! Neither of us could finish all the food, and we went into food coma...TOO full!!! After writhing in our seats our of pain of being so full, we headed out to catch our bus back to Cork. The ride back was a little quieter than the ride there...we didn't break any seats on this ride at least (I kind of did on the way there)!!!

We got back to Cork, and we both had about an hour before our next buses to our next locations...mine to Killarney and Kelsie's to Galway. So we sat on the ground, talked and laughed and just hung out until it was time to go. We said goodbye, and parted ways for the last time until who knows when. I got on my bus to Killarney and almost fell asleep on the ride.

I arrived in Killarney in the dark and rain, about 1.5 hours after leaving Cork. I asked directions from a couple people, and eventually found my hostel, which was in the center of the town center!! Awesome!! Even in the dark, I knew I loved this town. It was SO clean and beautiful and just exactly what you'd imagine when you think of a little Irish town!!! I passed a Franciscan monestary, a park, and all these pretty storefronts and pubs and restaurants and shops on my way to my hostel. I got there, and got into my room. I decided to call it a night. I was dead from the day, full, and ready to call it a day. I read for a while, picked at my leftovers, and went to bed.
