An opinion is a gift. In this day and age, we should all recognise that being able to have your own opinion and share it freely is something to be valued. Can you imagine living in a society where you could get beheaded for trying to express yourself? Doesn't sound too appealing, does it?
I've just been thinking about a friend of mine. She isn't a total sheep or anything, and she does have her own opinions. The thing is, she relies too much on what other people think. By other people, I mostly mean her siblings. She's the youngest of quite a few so it's nice that she looks up to them and everything, but she seems to think that they are right in everything they say. I have recommended comedians to her, and she has said things like "Well, X said that's he's rubbish." and so she refuses to give them a chance. I mean, it's completely idiotic. What's worse, if X started liking this particular person, then my friend probably would, too.
I've brought this up a thousand times with her, but she doesn't want to hear it. She denies it, which is understandable. Being told that you're a basic opinion-parasite is hardly something you want to hear.
Another thing is with films. I'm a movie fanatic. I watch them and research them religiously. It's an interest this friend of mine and I share. However, she still depends on her siblings to make up her mind for her. There's a movie that came out recently, and most of the world loved it. I mentioned to her that we should go to see it one of the days, and she was like "I'm not going to see that. X and Y saw it and they said it wa terrible." Who cares? Make up your own mind! Sorry if I'm over-using that phrase, but it needs to be said.
This blog isn't about me venting about my friend. I'm not like that. I'm not mean. There is a point to it.
Every other aspect of her personality is awesome and I love her to bits.
My point is that you should never ever have your opinion given to you. Ever. I know the examples I have given regarding this subject are very light as they are simply about films and comedians, but these can be related to bigger things like war and murder, death penalties, abortion.. whatever.
You can have an opinion on anything. Obviously I'm not encouraging people to shove their opinion in other people's faces, it's just important that you decide things for yourself.
I'm really tired right now and I don't know if I'm getting my point across well.
Just value the fact that you can have an opinion, and take advantage of that fact.

I think you stated your opinion of people having opinions very well and you're right we should form our own opinions.
