Record prices, Why?
The politicians like to blame our dependence on foreign sources.
Whose fault is that?
The politicians.
They haven't allowed any new refineries to be built in this country for forty years.
They have stopped all drilling in Alaska, and limited it in the rest of the country.
They don't allow U. S. companies to drill off the American coast within 200 miles.
But they don't stop foreign companies from drilling there.
They can take our oil and sell it back to us.
They can take it and sel it somewhere else, so we never get it at all.
Who profits from high prices?
Oil speculators, the rich get richer.
Oil companies, the very rich get a lot richer.
Record profits every quarter for years.
When the well-head price goes up in the middle east, they raise the pump prices here the same day.
It takes months for the oil to get from the well-head to the gas pump.
Pump it out of the ground, send it through pipelines or in trucks to storage tanks on the coast, load it onto ships, freight it across the ocean, transfer it to storage tanks here, move it to the refineries, turn it into gasoline, truck it out to gas stations.
Why do they raise the price the same day if we won't get the gas for months?
Greed, monumental greed.
What do the politicians do?
They give billions of our tax dollars to the oil companies.
Call your congresspersons, ask them how much the government gave to the oil companies last year.
Ask them why they take money from poor people and give it to the billionaires that own the oil companies.
They want to turn corn into fuel.
This is adding to the sharp rise in food prices, farmers that usually raise other crops have switched to corn and regular corn farmers are selling it for fuel instead of food.
It takes the energy from 77 gallons of corn fuel to make 100 gallons of corn fuel.
77% waste.
Fluorescent light bulbs use about 85% less energy than regular bulbs.
They last for years.
Why doesn't the government send every family a coupon for 10 or 20 free fluorescent bulbs?
Send it with the tax refunds.
It would cut way down on electricity use.
It would cut down on pollution from oil and coal fired electric plants.
It would save millions of us money on our electric bills.
They won't do it because their billionaire friends that own oil companies and electric companies would make smaller profits.
They won't help us, or cut pollution, because it would make their biggest contributors mad.
What the next President should do:
1- Invest heavily in energy research.
2- Free fluorescent light bulbs for every home in America.
3- Over the next four years, replace all U. S. government cars with small, hybrid powered vehicles. I'm sure the politicians and buearocrats don't all need limousines and SUV's.
4- If necessary, gasoline price controls, or even gas rationing.
5- As a last resort, nationalize the oil companies.
