 Uncle Sam's Plantation
Uncle Sam's Plantation
This is an article written by Star Parker, a Syndicated Columnist and author as well as a lovely young black woman. You can see her picture under My Photos.
Gary

Her article:
Six years ago I wrote a book called Uncle Sam's Plantation. I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare state and my own transformation out of it.

I said in that book that indeed there are two Americas -- a poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on capitalism.

I talked about government programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS), Emergency Assistance to Needy Families with Children (EANF), Section 8 Housing, and Food Stamps.

A vast sea of perhaps well-intentioned government programs, all initially set into motion in the 1960s, that were going to lift the nation's poor out of poverty.

A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor black Americans onto the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mind sets from "How do I take care of myself?" to "What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?"

Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism created monstrous moral and spiritual problems -- the kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others.

The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunctional inner city schools, and broken black families.

Through God's grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood what freedom meant and how great this country is.

I had the privilege of working on welfare reform in 1996, passed by a Republican Congress and signed 50 percent.

I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor black communities and replacing it with wealth- producing American capitalism.

But, incredibly, we are going in the opposite direction.

Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like poor America on socialism.

Uncle Sam has welcomed our banks onto the plantation and they have said, "Thank you, Suh."

Now, instead of thinking about what creative things need to be done to serve customers, they are thinking about what they have to tell Massah in order to get their cash.

There is some kind of irony that this is all happening under our first black president on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

Worse, socialism seems to be the element of our new young president. And maybe even more troubling, our corporate executives seem happy to move onto the plantation.

In an op-ed on the opinion page of the Washington Post, Mr. Obama is clear that the goal of his trillion dollar spending plan is much more than short term economic stimulus.

"This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it's a strategy for America 's long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, and education."

Perhaps more incredibly, Obama seems to think that government taking over an economy is a new idea. Or that massive growth in government can take place "with unprecedented transparency and accountability."

Yes, sir, we heard it from Jimmy Carter when he created the Department of Energy, the SynfuelsCorporation, and the Department of Education.

Or how about the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 -- The War on Poverty -- which President Johnson said "...does not merely expand old programs or improve what is already being done. It charts a new course. It strikes at the causes, not just the consequences of poverty."

Trillions of dollars later, black poverty is the same. But black families are not, with triple the incidence of single-parent homes and out-of-wedlock births.

It's not complicated. Americans can accept Barack Obama's invitation to move onto the plantation. Or they can choose personal responsibility and freedom.

Does anyone really need to think about what the choice should be?

"The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."

This is a great post. I wish I had read it, before I wrote about the Federal debt plantation. I'm going to link this on my Facebook page.

That is just an incredible book. Perhaps more people will stand up for themselves and call government programs what they are. There is always a dangled carrot to entice people into capture. The resulting slavery is never worth the promises that government makes.

That is a fantastic read. Isn't it sickening how the republicans, who want to help pull people out of the ghettos and put them in self-satisfying jobs, are seen as the bad guys, but the democrats who want to keep them in the ghetto and hold them down with welfare checks are seen as the good guys? It's actually very disturbing.

I agree with you and I think I'm in love. LOL. If you haven't seen Kevin's video to Jeneane Garafolo, let me know. He is a young (by my standards) black man satirizing Jeneane's stupid remarks on TV stating that the Tea Parties were full of racists. Apparently her definition of racist is anyone that doesn't agree with Obama. Kevin thanks her for letting him know. He had spoken at a number of Tea Parties and didn't know he was in mortal danger. Then he asks for Jeneane's protection. He said he used to think he was from a strong race that could take care of itself but now, thanks to her, he realized he needed her protection and if he needed anything all he had to do was stick his hand out and she would fill it. You will appreciate this video. Near the end he is looking for the racist at an actual Tea Party. I won't spoil the ending for you. His website is TheBlackSphere.com. As Al Sharpton once said about Colin Powell, "He may be a black man but he's not MY kind of black man". I can pretty much assure you Kevin isn't Al Sharpton's kind of black man either.

Thanks Gary. I just watched that video again. It's hysterical. I love Kevin Johnson's humor and ideals. Isn't it amazing that the liberals, who want to keep the black man in the ghetto by handing out free money, is seen as the compassionate good guy, while the conservative who believes everyone needs and can attain gainful, prideful employment, is seen as the racist bad guy? It boggles the mind. It isn't the conservative who's telling black people they can't achieve anything on their own, it's the liberals who pacify them with free money.

Pastor James David Manning is another guy I love listening to. He's a black man who hates Obama. He speaks with such wit and boldness that you can't help but laugh. Nothing PC about this guy. Check out my homepage for a link to his website and radio show.

I checked your homepage and then I found him, (James David Manning - thanks to you). I saw one of his videos a family friend sent me but had no idea of who he was. The man has a PhD! Take that liberal Academics!

Natalie Arceneaux is also very cool. She's on AM channel 1070 in Houston, Texas between 12:30 and 1:30 on Saturday. She was advertised as a triple threat. She's conservative, she's a woman and she's black. I would like to add she's a realist as well.

I just located some of her archives. I'm listening to her as I type. Thanks for the tip.
