I actually managed to sleep 3-4 hours on the plane ride to London. Mary’s people didn’t help her when we went through security, as she seemed to receive the most scrutiny. Arrived in Oslo on time, but my and Shawn’s luggage remained at London Heathrow. Missing a few things including my Rotary formal wear, host gifts, pins, and CPAP. Crossing my fingers I’ll have it by tomorrow night. Met Kai Tore Rønold at the airport who took me to his house in Årnes. Met his wife Kjersti, son Jørgen, and dog Honey.

Woke up with very sore throat since I didn’t have my CPAP. But I’m probably over any jetlag. Had a full layout of traditional Norwegian breakfast. The first of many, I’m sure. I’m very impressed with the use of natural wood in floors, cabinetry, trim, etc. all unpainted! Outside of these suburban homes typically painted a mustard yellow, brick red, forest green, or dark blue. Roofs use concrete tiles. This may only be true for this particular single-family development built only 10-15 years ago.
Kai and his wife took me to their band rehearsal at the Arnes community center. Genre, big band sounds from the 1940’s. After 30 minutes I met back up with the rest of the group as we met representatives of the Årnes Rotary Club. We visited Gamle Hvam Museum, what used to be a large influential farm that is preserved to show a historic Norwegian home lifestyle. Next was the two-room Stein Skole (Stone School) which was also a center of resistance during World War II. Finally we visited Nes Kirkerniner, site of an ancient church that had burned down, leaving only the roofless stone shell. A large buffet-style dinner followed at the farm home of an architect and his wife.
My luggage arrived!
