 Skinny Pants
Do you have a pair of skinny pants?  You know, the ones you wear ONLY when you can get into them?  Or maybe they are your goal pants?  You bought them knowing they were a bit too tight but you really liked them and you just knew they would look great once you lost a couple of pounds?  Me, I have several.  Different levels of skinny.  But yesterday I wore my favorites!  My REAL skinny pants.

I bought them a while ago.  I think I weighed 110ish at the time and they were too tight but they were a steal.  And I just knew I could get into them, eventually.  When I hit the 107s I could at least wear them without splitting them.  I just wore long shirts.  I liked the way they made my legs look.  When I hit the 105s I could really wear them with confidence.  But, if I get in the 102s then they start to kind of hang.  I'm in the magic range and I can wear them proud.  So, I wore them yesterday.  Ah, the skinny pants.  The treasured skinny pants.

Yesterday was quite the day.  I woke up, did my cardio, weighed in, 104.8.  Slowly rising but I knew if I just stuck to tuna for my afternoon snack and not the ground turkey I'd get the scale to go back down.  Once you've been doing this for awhile, you figure these things out.  Anyway, went to work in my skinny pants, , attended a meeting which was a complete waste of time and headed home.  Hubby and I went to the gym where I worked my legs.  The dreaded, holding-on-to-the-last-ounces-of-fat legs.  I upped the weights that I pressed, extended and curled.  I can see my quads in there somewhere.  I just gotta force them out.  I figured out that what I'm missing is the walking lunges.  Last time I trained, my trainer had me do walking lunges every time I worked the legs.  As much as I hated those things I think they were the key.  So, when I was at my gym I would do walking lunges back and forth across the gym.  Usually 3-4 sets of about 52 each, depending on how busy it was.  I started carrying 10 lbs weights and gradually moved up to 17.5 lbs weights.  And somewhere towards the end one of the regulars, we'll call him Russian Guy (even tho I don't think he is really Russian.  He just looks like the guy in White Nights.  Remember that movie from way back when?  "Say you, say me?"  Remember?)  Anyway, one day Russian Guy says to me, "you know you can do lunges standing still".  I think he was annoyed by watching me lunge up and down the aisle at the gym.  At the time, I just smiled and said, "I know" but ignored him and continued to do walking lunges for the remainder of my training.  But once the training was over whenever I did lunges, I did them standing still.  And, since this training started, I've only done them standing still, various forms, mind you, but always sticking to one spot.  So, yesterday before I even got to the gym I decided I was going to do walking lunges cuz I need to find my quads.  Well, we got up to the weight machines and it wasn't packed but it wasn't light either, so I put off doing the lunges.  We did everything else.  I told myself I will do my walking lunges when I get to the track.  My kids have track practice on Monday afternoons.  I'll do the walking lunges there as well my cardio.

So, as we are headed to the track, I start to panic.  Should I do walking lunges there?  Will anyone laugh at me?  Will people think I'm weird?  I express my discontent to my hubby.  He says, "they'll only laugh for a short time".  Oh thanks.  He says, "they're just kids".  I say, "huh?"  He thought I was worried about the highschoolers.  I could care less about them.  I spent my entire high school life being laughed at, they do not bother me.  I was worried about the PARENTS!  Hubby just rolls his eyes at me.  See how crazy I am?  My worries are really trivial in the big scheme of things but can literally paralyze my insides!  I make up my mind.  I'm doing the walking lunges.  No matter what.

At the track we put our stuff down, hubby and the boys go off to where the coaches and other kids are at, I take a deep breath and start the lunges.  I did 4 sets of 50.  After each set, I shook out my legs, took a breather and then did another set.  I went just under half a lap around the track.  Then I walked the rest of the way.  By this time I was warmed up so I jogged 8 laps.  Yep, eight in a row!  Then I walked a lap and started jogging again.   My legs were killing me!  They were on fire singing "wild thing"!  I was going to try and make at least two laps before walking again but each time I would go past the parents I'd hear their comments, "there she goes again", "she's still going", "she's sick I tell you, sick", "she must be in training", "I wish I could do that".  And these comments spurred me on!  They were words of encouragement and motivation.  They probably thought that I do this all the time and every lap was just another lap.  Little did they know that just them watching me and taking note, kept me going.  I ran 8 more laps.  Each lap I'd tell myself, "just a half lap more", then "just one more lap", then "I can do one more" and the next thing you know I've gone the 8.  I walked the next lap.  It was getting dark and the lights weren't coming on so I knew the coach would end practice pretty soon.  I had done a total of 19 laps.  I needed that 20th lap.  So, I started the last lap doing 200 more walking lunges.  My quads were dying!  My calves were shrieking and one of my hips was calling "FOUL!"  Then I finished the last lap walking.  THAT was a great workout!  20 laps!  That's five miles between you and me.  4 that I jogged/ran and 1 that I walked/lunged.  I ROCK!!!

So, I finished the day.  I did ALL my cardio.  I did my walking lunges and I didn't cheat on my diet.  Wow!  Seriously, WOW!!!

So this morning we get up and hubby is sick.  And you know if he's sick and can't move, he's REALLY sick.  He usually fights through anything.  But he's down for the count, so I didn't get to do my cardio.  I had to get the kids ready for school.  But, I weighed in at 103.8.  And, my legs are already complaining.  Normally the muscles don't really complain until the next late afternoon or evening after a work out, but this time, I got them good.  So, I'll just do extra cardio this afternoon.  Chest and triceps, then cardio.  Sound like a plan?

Welp, that's all for now.  Things are good.  Feeling good, looking good.  Moving forward.

Until next time...
