I have never heard of anything stranger in my life.

The Anti Defamation League was, before this afternoon, flat out denying that the Armenian Genocide, at the hands of the Ottoman Empire, ever occurred.

This despite photographic evidence, eyewitness accounts, and victim testimony.

Of course the Turks have always denied that the genocide, which killed up to 1.5 million Armenians, ever took place. They also threaten ramifications to any nation that acknowledges that it actually happened.

I am related by marriage to an Armenian family who had to flee their homeland to survive the genocide. It is considered the first ethnic cleansing of the 20th century.

The irony is of course that the ADL was founded in the 30s to support Jewish victims of discrimination. More recently it has evolved into a non-profit which fights all kinds of discrimination.

So why are they seemingly supporting the Turks in this instance? Doesn't that seem just as bad as supporting the Nazis? Which, by the way, is probably the worst thing you could do.

The answer is all political. Foxman, the head of the ADL, has vowed to kill a bill in congress that would have the US recognize the genocide officially for the first time ever. Foxman is concerned that this bill could hurt relations between the US and Israel and Turkey.

The ADL fired a regional leader here in New England on 8/17 who stated that the genocide should be recognized by the US.  

I sent a letter to the ADL today demanding an explanation for the actions of their organization. I may send another calling for the resignation of Foxman. I would urge everyone else to do the same.

This kind of hypocrisy is beyond ridiculous.
