Fashion Smarts Vs. Image Smarts

It never fails and I don't know why, but for some reason whether I am a thrift store, Saks or Marshalls someone always asks me my authoritative opinion on whether they should purchase something...or better yet , "would you wear this with that."  It begs an answer everytime of fashion smarts versus image smarts.

Apparently I look like a proffessional shopper and since that is what I have done by vocation and done image consulting on the side, I suppose I give off an aura. That being said, I want to share my thoughts for today on the basic image criteria that so many Americans have forgotten and become accustomed to total laziness.

One - please be mindful of the basic ironing and pressing of the garments. Be it a t-shirt, jeans or your favorite khakis, a little goes a long way. If your tired in the morning, do it before you brush your teetht night  for goodness sake.

Two - please hem your jeans and pants appropriately. Another basic with exception to the fashionable cuffed jean look ( and please do this correctly no more than 2 folds). People have become lazy and since we live in one of the most economicly viable countries....do we have to look like paupers?

Three - Please know that one can do so much on a small budget and still maintain diginity. (My last question brought me to this)  I wardrobed myself very well perusing the clearance racks at my favorite local haunts. ( after college while still pennyless) ie. Marshalls, T.J. Maxx. One needs to just pay attention to proper fit. Check the local thrift stores in the more affluent communities. You would be amazed what you can find for basics at a church bazar or thrift store for $3.00

Four - Please do acquire the basics first and the rest falls in to place. Buy the proper black and charcoal pants, a good pair of tan, some dependable white shirts and a good pair of black shoes. Make sure the undergarments fit well, so your garments hang properly. I am speaking to men and women. If the bra is old and droopy...pitch it! If there are panty lines, buy a thong and get over it, if your boxers are bunching up, save them for the weekends and get boxer briefs...please

These are the image questions that I am asked so frequently and if I leave anything as a legacy on this earth, god let it be I affected a hem line or creased pant correctly. -

I don't agree. Fashion smarts? If we consentrate on fashion our clothing is dictated by the designers, we are dressing for them. If we are conserned about image, we are dressing for others. You didn't mention comfort, but to me comfort comes first, then I like to wear things I have designed myself. You and I both realize that street smarts usually leads the designers. I mean you will see it on the street before the cat walk. I don't think we should care what others think about what we wear, if we feel comfortable and the clothes are exciting to us, who cares about others, If it bothers them they don't have to look, Dress codes suck.

WHAT A GREAT BLOG. I NEED ALL THE HINTS I CAN GET. YES, I IRON MY CLOTHES EVEN MY JEANS. I JUST LEAVE THE IRON UP ALL THE TIME. I FOUND THAT I HAVE A TENDENCY TO BUY CLOTHES BECAUSE I LIKE THEM, THEY FIT, BUT DON'T USUALLY GO WITH ANYTHING. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

Iron? What exactly does that look like? I heard they can be dangerous and I prefer not to walk on the dangerous side.
Great tips and ideas too!
Any ideas of closet organization?
