| Piracy and Illegal Downloads
|
|
|
So it's a Friday afternoon and I'm sitting in front of a computer at home. Suddenly, I have an urge to watch a movie. I have 3 options:
1. I walk down the street and rent a DVD.
2. I drive to the nearest cinema and pay to watch a film.
3. I don't bother to get off my ass and illegally download a movie off the internet.
The 3rd option is the most painless choice, and the cheapest. It may be illegal, but how much damage could one illegal download possibly do?
With new advances to technology, more and more people are watching illegally downloaded or pirated films, and sites like Veoh, YouTube, 56.com and Tudou are getting more and more popular. So how much does it hurt the film industry?
Studies reveal piracy is causing a loss of approximately $21 billion dollars per year. But it's just money, what about your own morals? If you illegally watched a movie, would you be able to sleep at night? What if you stole a DVD from a video store? Would you feel guilty about that?
In my opinion, I think illegal downloads and movies are just a convenience to most people, although they are subconciously aware of the fact that they are breaking the law, they just want settle into the movie. |
