This is the one of the most recent movies I've watched and one of those I've been looking forward of watching, and I wasn't disappointed. I've watched the first two and I understood the story even more after watching Rise of the Lycans. Story was great, it was shown the lycans rebelled from their masters, the vampires.

As we found out in the second underworld, the vampires came from Marcus and the lycans came from William. The two of wish were brothers but as William turned into a lycan which could not take human form again and was mostly a rabid animal with no reasoning at all he was imprisoned by Victor (one of the elder vampires). Victor was commited in slaying these lycans which cause chaos in the territory he had, they kill the people who of which are govern by the vampires. But one night a lycan gave birth to a lycan who from birth came out a human - Lucian, when Victor was about to slay the baby he suddenly hesitate and tried to raise the boy. He then use the boy to infect slaves to turn them into lycans who could take human form, lycans of which he could control and use for his own purposes. These lycan would do all the work and serve as guardians during the day while they slumber.

As time passes, Lucian grew up and he was seen as magnificent. He was skilled and could focus like no lycan can. Though a like can he was given some privelages as Victor was impressed by his loyalty and talent. He could roam around the fortress unlike the other lycans who were kept in cages when they are not doing there labors. But eventhough Lucian would appear cold when killing the lycans who could not take human form, he seemed to have been affected when his fellow lycan are being mistreated within the walls by the vampires. The vampires see the lycans as purely slaves and beasts. But not known to everyone, Lucian and Victor's daughter, Sonia, were in love. They do well in pretending that they hold no relationship in the eyes of all but at night they take refuge in the tunnels of the castles where they would meet and express they're love. This was most dangerous as Victor and the whole vampire world would never approve of it.

One night, while they were together Lucian informed Sonia he would be leaving the castle. He made a key, this key could unlock the spiked collars place on all the lycan slaves so they would be unable to change to their werewolf form. Removing the collar was forbidden, maybe because it is a proof of their submission and loyalty. Sonia, was hesitant as she very well knew what the outcome and reaction her father would be. Victor would move heaven and earth to hunt them down using all the resources in his power. That night ended and the two parted ways, not known to them one of Victor's men saw them but he didn't inform him.

The night were some human nobles were going to the vampire's castle, Sonia and some of her men were going to rendevous with them in the woods to escort them to the castle. After Sonia and her men left, having lycan senses Lucian sensed that there were a lot of lycans in the woods who were waiting to ambush them. He rushed to aid Sonia and the others, they tried to fight off the lycans but there were too many, Lucian had no choice but to use the key he had made to remove his collar. He changed into a werewolf, howled to somewhat communicate with the werewolves. Surprisingly they obeyed him and backed-off but just as they did Victor with some men arrived. He was enraged to see Lucian remove his collar and changed into a werewolf. Sonia tried to reason out to Victor and explain that Lucain only did that to save Sonia, but Victor didn't listen. He could not accept the fact that Lucian, the lycan he trusted would break the forbidden rule of removing his collar and making a key for that matter. He threw Lucian in the cages with the other lycans then after a few days had him whipped as an example to the others. Lucian was removed of his privilages and was treated just like the others from that day.

While amongst the other lycans, Lucian fully accepted his lycan lineage and the emotions he kept for his mistreated bretheren. He would then plan an escape for everyone as he could not take he and the others be treated as slaves and animals any longer. Lucian spoke with Sonia and told her to talk to Victor's man who saw them together as he suspected that this man wanted something for he did not inform Victor about their affair. When Sonia talked to him she found out that what he wanted was to be one of the 12 council members of the vampires, but as vampires were immortal it would be far till he will have a chance to be in the council. So Sonia offered her position in the counsil as an exchange for him helping Lucian escape. During the escape, only Lucian and a hand full of lycans were able to escape the castle as they were turned back by the guards. Outside the gates, Lucian and the others plotted to seige the castle and rescue the others. They fortified their numbers by recruiting from the nearby villages. Lucian however seeked the lycans of Williams bretheren (those who could not take human form) to forge an alliance.

But when Sonia was not able to arrive at the set date where she and Lucian was suppose to meet after his escape, Lucian became worried. Then suddenly one of Sonia's subordinates went to Lucian's camp and informed him that Victor found out everything about Lucian and Sonia. Lucian then took it upon himself to go ahead and rescue Sonia, But Victor was ready and he was able to execute his trap. Sonia tried to reason with Victor once more and even informed him she was carrying his grandson but Victor was even more enraged at the fact that there was a union of the species, vampire and lycan. Sonia was brought to the council and condemned to death by the counsil members, even Victor voted for the execution. She was executed right in front of Lucian. Enraged Lucian fought till he reached the walls of the castle and gave a frightening howl which signaled the Lycans' assault. There were too many of them, the vampires were out run and when they were able to release the other lycans held captive in the cages the battle was over as their numbers were too much for the vampires. Lucian and Victor fought, Lucian emerged victorious but he was not able to totally slay Victor. He was able to escape along with the other elders kept in steel coffins.

This was the beginning of the war between the vampires and the lycans which continued through the two other Underworld movies. This was the prequel for us to fully understand how everything began. And in my opionion there will be another Underworld movie as there were 3 elder vampires - Victor, Marcus and one more still sealed in his coffin waiting to be awakened.
