| Wet, Sloppy Kisses! |
Ozzy, my two year old Pug, woke me up this morning around 4 a.m. :/ but, he was kind enough to just accept a scratch on the head instead of a walk. We went back to sleep and then, I woke up to him barking softly by my bed. "Buf, boof" is what he sounds like, lol! Like he's saying the French word for beef - boeuf. By then, it was nearly 7, a more civilized time to wake up :)
I bundled up, leashed him up and off we went. I haven't seen a sunrise for quite some time, so I thanked Ozzy for that. It was a very pretty morning and quite chilly! I love Fall weather, but must remember to wear warmer clothes...I had my jammies on with a big sweat shirt on top and sneakers. Quite the vision of loveliness at 7 a.m. :)
Ozzy did his business, we greeted two neighbors with their doggies out for a walk and waved at the trashmen who were just starting our cul-de-sac. Busy Monday morning in my neighborhood! No kids waiting for buses, I guess they leave earlier?
We walked back to our house and I pulled a few weeds out from the front yard. Ozzy sniffed alongside me and I thought how much I've missed having a canine companion. I've been doggieless for four years since my two Cockers Sadie and Joe passed away in Brussels before I left the country.
We had a huge house in Belgium with an equally huge yard out back, so I didn't have to do the walking routine in the morning. I just opened the back yard and out they went. Now, I live in a townhouse with a small patio out back which consists of flagstone patio area with a planting area topped with big chunks of red mulch. Not really appetizing for a dog. There are a few plants, but no tree. So, I may have to rectify that problem for Ozzie. Note to Self - must buy logs. It would be nice to just let him out in the early morning hours and jump back in bed with him, but now, I'm just too wide awake for that!
After we pulled a few weeds out, took the trash out, we went inside to the warmth of my kitchen and Ozzie ate his breakfast. I made coffee and wished I had some logs to start a fire...note to Self - must buy logs.
I made a pot of coffee, prepared myself a cup and Ozzy seemed to be asking a question with his eyes. I wondered what I'd forgotten...ahh, right. Note to Self -buy dog treats for after our walks and a ball for Ozzy. I guess after four years, I'm out of practice :) Dogs need chew toys, balls, a fuzzy monkey to sleep with, etc. When I bought Ozzy on Saturday afternoon, I only had enough money for him, his bed, bowls for water and food, and a leash/harness. And, of course, food & a chew bone which he devoured in the first hour of being in his new home!
Note to Self - must make Ozzy's vet appt within two weeks. He is very healthy, I believe and was obviously well taken care of at the Shelter. It was a pleasure to pay them $300 for the running of the place. They do great work! Note to Self - must send thank you card to Shelter with photo of Ozzy and me :) The handlers loved him and insisted that I bring Ozzy to the Petsmart Halloween costume parade! LOL! I was told that he'd win hands down. He is awful cute :)
Well, I've never dressed a dog up :) When my kids were young, I dressed them up certainly, but not our family dogs and this makes me realize something. Ozzy is the second dog I've owned as a single woman. Chelsea, my buff-colored Cocker Spaniel was my first when I was 24 years old, wow. She lived 14 years and was a good girl. A little nutty :), but a good girl.
Ozzy is a perfectly behaved little boy. He is gentle, sweet, obedient and has a bit of ZEN to him :) He's a laid back pup with good manners and I wonder who gave him up and why. He is easy to fall in love with, but he does bark when I leave the house...hope he gets comfortable soon with his new house, new life and new routine with me. I also hope my neighbors will be kind and realize that we're just starting out. Most of them have dogs, as well, so I doubt I will have problems with them.
I also realize something else...I've been entirely too focused on A and our relationship lately. I was beginning to speed things up in my mind and that's never a good thing. Now, I have a new family member and I believe Ozzy is exactly what I need. Another focus, a distraction (and I mean that in the best way possible!) and a new source of love, companionship, and wet, sloppy kisses :)
A is coming over tonight and he doesn't know about Ozzy. A has two cats and now, I have a dog. We'll see what happens tonight :) Should be interesting!
Happy Monday and may you be happy, healthy and safe this week.
Peace and love.
