Well, the electrician didn't show up yesterday and I have four logs left! I'm waiting until I finish this blog to light up the fireplace in the living room for a little warmth. Fires in the hearth create warmth for my body and for my soul. There are few things that do that for me.
Okay, that's not entirely true :) Shirley Bassey and Dionne Warwick do that for me, too. I am listening to the CD they put out together with the songs:
Never, Never, Never
Unchained Melody
Walk on By
Anyone Who Had A Heart (one of my favorites!)
Killing Me Softly with His Song
Something
Don't Make Me Over
When I was younger, way younger :)...
I loved Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and then, Diana Ross followed briefly. Gladys Knight appeared and then, it was Carol King! Years later, I grew enamoured of Janis Joplin, Chaka Khan and Grace Slick. Then, it was Stevie Nicks, forever!
This list continued on in my 30's and 40's with:
Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill, Sade, Natalie Cole, Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, and finally, Amy Winehouse in my 50's!
And, Bonnie Rait, always! I've probably missed a couple, but you get the idea of what I love to listen to.
Bluesy, soulful, raw emotions and throaty voices, those are the 'requirements' for me to love a song and/or a singer and fall under their 'spell'. Lyrics of love, unrequited love, love lost and love rediscovered have always done it for me. Love songs fuel my creativity, warm my heart and take me away like a Calgon bath!
I guess I am an old romantic from way back :)
I'm a woman who thinks that there's nothing better than romance and a slow dance with the man you are crazy about while listening to one of these great women of song.
And, if a man is absent from your life, you will always have these women in your life and your memories or imagination to keep you warm.
No, not the same, but for now, it'll do :)
I wonder how many of the songs my favorite women sang were written by MEN??? Hmmm...another research project for me while I wait for the friggin' electrician :) Off to light the fire and listen to "Anyone Who Had A Heart" yet again!
Happy Friday!
Peace and love to you.
