 I NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE!

Hello!  It's a grey Saturday, but it's not cold which is nice.  The windows are open and a warm breeze is coming through, it feels great.  I've decided on an editing Saturday and I'm a bit stuck on two issues.  I'll tell you in a bit what I'm in need of...

The synchronicity of a couple of days ago when I had a lightbulb moment continues!  I was talking with my daughter H about it and her friend S came to my mind.  S is a college friend of H's and she graduated with a degree in English Literature.  According to my daughter, S recently finished a two-year memoire project with an older gentleman and is hostessing until full-time work comes along.  I asked H if she thought her friend would be interested in helping and she said yes!

I called S this morning and she has agreed to read my manuscript and edit it (this is my second edit, btw).  I am dropping off the manuscript on Monday around noon :) I'm very happy about this development and excited to work with S who we've known since our Brussels days.

Okay, here are the two issues/situations I need help with:

1.  I need a person who has lived through a hurricane to give me words, impressions, sights, sounds and smells of what it's like to go through that experience.

2.  I need a midwife or a doula to answer some childbirth questions I have.  Ideally, I'd like someone who is their late 60s or older who has information on old timey methods and/or rural country life.

I've obviously done my research, read the books, seen the videos on hurricanes, but that is not as great as first hand knowledge.

Thank you in advance!  If you can't personally help me, perhaps you could give me some info, a book title, a website or a person I could get in touch with.

THANK YOU!!

Peace and love.

E

Ellie I was 5 when the Hurricane came through Florida. All I really remember is being huddled in the corner and my parents covering my sibling and myself. As far as my feeling I sure I would have gone outside if I could have lol. Hell I rode my bike out to the edge of a town in Nebraska when I was 16 to see a tornado. Got in trouble for that one, but I have no fear on those things, speaking in front of people yes, things that can kill me no. Go figure. Do you have Virtual life on your FB? She lives in Florida. Maybe she has experienced one. Just a thought have a good weekend Ellie.

My best friend lived through Hurricane Katrina. I could ask her if she could give you her first hand knowledge. I know she would be more then happy to write it down and send it to you.

As a teenager I grew up living across the street from the Atlantic Ocean, in New Haven,Ct. We had full view of the ships coming into the harbor, and the sunsets. But I loved the hurricanes! The violent force of nature. The ocean would rise about 6ft. and the waves another 6 ft. higher. They would crash against the top of the seawall and the hurricane force winds would sweep the waves up and over and against our house. Preparation was everything, because once it started you could do nothing. Then there would be dead silence, and you went out to check the damage; but that is only the eye of the storm. Once more it would attack and usually more violently. After was the clean up. It left a crystalized salt spray on the windows that you couldn't see thru; and was a bear to get washed off.Of course I wasn't paying the repair bills and my dad view it different than I. :)

THANK YOU, LARRY! This is what I need! Words like seawall (believe it or not, I forgot about that!) and the "crystalized salt spray on the windows! Great stuff! I can definitely use that, so consider yourself part of my story :) Happy Sunday to you!

Thanks, Ash! They seem to be :) I am going to Kinko's in a bit to make a copy of the manuscript for S and then, I'm taking it over to her. I'm excited, too. Maybe this old story will get told, after all :) It's been seven years and I thank you for your positive vibes and good wishes! Lots of love! xx
