There was a point in time when We were told that "Doing the right thing" brings You personal satisfaction and/or pleassure, making us belive that those things that bring us pleassure is doing the right thing, and making us forget that at the end of our existence what count are those actions that bring satisfaction to others.
I look around at society and see us working harder and longer to provide those things for our kids that our parents couldn't afford to buy us, not realizing that what We were missing was "time", time to play, eat and share valuable moments as a family.
We go out and buy many things that don't need just because those things are available to us, and We do it for the personal satisfaction of impressing others and for the pleassure of just have them, increasing our debt to society and reducing the amount of quality time that spend with our family.
What do We rather have?
A bigger house with a few extra rooms to accommodate more people, working longer hours to be able to buy those things that We need to please society, OR having a place just big enough for our family that give us the time to be home when our kids come from school, to prepare and eat a meal together.
What's doing the "right thing"?
Why haven't We started to get use to doing those things that satisfy the soul, to feel prud of everything We do instead of doing things to prove others, to deal with our personal issues before We try to help others, set a good example instead telling others how to better themselves, be better parents instead of better friends? |
