 Bullying
OK, so, my 13 year old sister is being bullied. So are a lot of other people out there, but why should I bother to write about bullying, that could be the same as any other case of bullying out there?! Well, because my sister is dyslexic. Her mental age is half what her actual age is. She isn't stupid. In day to day situations she is perfectly competent, but she doesn't have the wit or speed of mind to create a cutting response to any form of insult. That is why I think this is significant. How can this situation be made worse and more painful for a protective older sister? By her mother not allowing her to protect her younger sister.
It kills me to think of someone hurting my sister in ANY way. She is the most harmless person you will ever meet. She is sweet, kind, innocent and extremely funny. And yet, some insecure, cruel individual can torment her, pick on someone so defenseless. How could anyone do that to someone? How can that make you feel big in any way? It is simply pulling the legs off a fly who has already lost its wings. How can i be expected to sit put and allow such behavior to continue? And yet that is what i have been asked to do! Where peoples morals lie are completely beyond me. People who can cause something defenseless any kind of pain are the people that make me lose my faith in humanity. What kind of race are we that allows cruelty. Forget wars. Forget power. These are the people that need our help. People who are subjected to unjust actions. It happens all over the world, for the starving children in Africa, to the bullied children in Kent. This kind of behavior is evident everywhere and should be put to a stop.
It seems to be that human nature is to feel power, in any way possible. How is this in any way acceptable?

I would stand up and intervene every time it is possible.Your sister
should not have to be bullied if you can do something about it.

I am a 43 year old women who has lived with Dyslexia all my life. I was bullied up to the 5 grade. We moved so it stopped. I am not being bullied now but I live with it everyday. It gave me low-self esteem. If there is any way you can help your sister..PLEASE do so.. One thing you said is so true.. It does take us longer to come up with a response. I don't know how many times I lay in bed thinking.. OH if I had said this.. but then it is too late. If you could help your sister with things to say that would help her self esteem a lot more then You stepping in to help her.

This just breaks my heart to know that someone is going though the same pain I went though as a child..
