To whom does the homework belong??
I know I did it myself when I was younger, and did my best work the night before something was due, but I don't want my children to learn from my approach to homework.

However here I sit at 8:41pm on Thursday evening .... doing Grade 3 homework for Miss 8 who waited until tonight to complete her homework!!

Now in her defense, she has done most of the 4 items she was given to work on during the week, which included
1. Practicing her spelling words
2. Reading for 30 minutes
3. Practice Times Tables

and

4. How many words can you make from KNOWLEDGE ........

This fourth request is the one that I have now in my lap, and I'm having some fun with it.
So I'd best go see how many words I can get from KNOWLEDGE ... then condense it down to what an 8 year might get !!!

I have faced the same issue
Do the homework and they do not learn
Don't do it and they fail
I tried to usually hit a middle ground, and since she did 3 of the 4, maybe that is a good start

You know the homework thing just does not get any easier as they get older. It is like prying a bone out of a dogs mouth to get them to get to it(my son). My daughter on the other hand was on top of her game and would work her arse off to make good grades. He is just one big fat hormone waiting to happen. Yikes.

I have never been a big fan of homework, if they don't get it in 8 hours with a teacher, they are not likely to get it at home either. I know a lot of it is for practice, but I've always been a big fan of let them relax and have fun at home after a long day at school. I don't want to spend 2 hours working on work stuff at home. Thats my stand and I'm sticking to it. Ha!

I always got my work done in school...other than special projects.I'm not tooting my own horn..the teachers gave us class time so we didn't have homework.. my kids had homework nearly everyday..it was ridiculous..I agree with shemelts after an 8 hour day in school...kids need to decompress just like we do..

Ohhh I am so with shemelts and pitapie on this one. Some of the things my daughter has had to do was not what I would call age appropriate. Eg. Last year she had to research the family and choose 2 ansetors that migrated out here. Then we had say what way they traveled and what route they took. What they brought here when they came out and why did they come out. As most of the descents came out on a boat then we had to do some research on the boat.

I showed a aunt what I needed stuff for, as she had all the family informataion, so that helped and she was even surprised at what they were asking.

BTW I did really well got and A for the assigment lol. And don't get me started on the Commenwealth games a few years back (recoiling with misery at the memory, and I still have my son to go through all this stuff too. I wonder if I could recycle the homework).

Homework is so annoying sometimes but if she learns now to do everything by herself she will be better in the long run. I know that my family would help me sometimes but I always try to do as much as possible by myself. As long as your daughter understands that she should start doing her own work she will be OK.
