Tidying Up - Car Rally Style

With two children to clean up after,   I always try to keep things neat and tidy as I go,
rather than dedicated any of my precious spare time to a big clean up.  Sometimes this clean as you go approach is like a crazy Car Rally, you never know where you'll end up next.

It is something like this.

Walking into the lounge room I notice a shoe of Master 5's
As I pick it up I notice a dirty sock which should be in the wash basket.
So I head for the laundry, on the way I have to pass through the kitchen,  where I notice a transformer (toy) and a Ben 10 (toy) sitting on the bench.
So I grab them - I'm going to Master 5's room anyway with the shoe.

Next is the laundry, where I put the dirty sock in the basket.
There on the floor is Miss 8's library bag!?
No wonder we couldn't find her overdue books.
This needs to go to her room.

So off I go to Miss 8's room, and hang her library bag on the door.
I notice a tea-towel from the kitchen and MY hair brush - no wonder I couldn't find it this morning.

Picking them up I turn to leave, but then decide I'd best grab her dirty clothes to put them in the laundry (they are strewn on the floor!).

Passing Master 5's room I look for the partner of the shoe I'm holding, can't find it, so I put the one I've got down anyway.
I also put the two toys into the toy box.

Before I can open his toy box I have to grab a drink bottle which is sitting on top.

The drink bottle stinks, I take a whiff and nearly get knocked over from the smell!! Peeewww fermented apple juice!

So if you've lost count, I now have a tea towel, my hair brush,
and now a drink bottle with fermented apple in it and Miss 8's dirty clothes.

Heading to the kitchen, I nearly trip on the shoe which is the partner
of the one I've just put into Master 5's room.  I pick it and put the drink bottle on the bench and the tea-towel on the rack.

I also notice Miss 8's reading folder on the bench just near the sink.
She'll need that tomorrow, so I grab it to put it in her bag.

Heading to the entrance hall, I drop the reading folder into her bag and notice her lunch box in her bag,  half open.  I spot todays sandwich half eaten and an apple also in the same state.

I head back to the kitchen to get rid of the stale food.
I see coloring pens on the dinner table and yesterdays paper (I've read it).

Back to Miss 8's room with the coloring pens, I then head to the laundry to drop off the clothes.

The cat starts meowing for his food (his bowl is in the laundry ... his food in the kitchen in the fridge!)

I head to my bathroom where I drop off my brush, and notice the towels are ready to be changed.  I grab them and go directly to the laundry.  Cat is still meowing.

I go to the kitchen look in the fridge for cat food, none left.
By this stage, I feel like I've got nothing done.
I head to the pantry, grab cat food and feed the cat.

I notice ironing to be done.... and more toys in the doorway.

....

I decide to have a coffee instead!  Tidy up finished for the moment.
