She glanced at her watch and tapped her slippered foot impatiently. Again he had her waiting. Third time this month. She wouldn't mind if he left her satisfied. But lately he'd left her less than happy with his performance, and it wasn't the first time. It had actually been going on for 2 years now.
He'd become a bit of a habit to her, he was always the first one she thought of when the mornings were crisp and fresh.
He'd often put the warmth into her mornings with a smile on his face.
She used to marvel at his prompt response to her distress calls.
He knew it wasn't something she liked doing alone.
She needed him, and he knew it. Most times he got there eager to please shortly after she made the call.
He liked her neediness and female vulnerabilities.
But lately he'd found others to "help".
She knew of them and initially didn't mind sharing.
So long as he came to her when she needed him, they could have him when she didn't.
Today was the last straw. She had waited in her nightware, the frigid air in her bedroom suggesting she stay in bed until he got there. Once he caught her in the shower, that was an experience. But today she had grown impatient waiting and unable to hold off any longer, she called him. She needed the warmth he created.
He was at Ms Tonkins just two blocks away, she noted this was a regular stop over for him. He'd be 30 minutes. It had now been 1 hour and she couldn't wait any longer, her day was getting away from her. Annoyance getting the better of her, she penned a note.
"Sorry, I just cannot do this anymore..." she wrote furiously forgetting the tact that her mother had taught her.
"I've found another, and he'll be here tomorrow. I'm sure he'll be able to help me... like you used to."
Unsure of herself, she thought about changing her mind.
But why should she continue to be disappointed.
There was no warmth in the house, and he just wasn't helping her.
Sticking the note to the front door, she jumped into her car.
Checking that her lipstick and make up was perfect she drove to the warm cafe.
"Darling," he said putting his arms around her as she approached the table.
"I did it." she said sitting down as he pulled out her chair. "He'll find out whenever he can drag himself away from Ms Tonkins place!"
"Good," was his reply.
They were momentarily interrupted by the waitress bringing their coffees, he'd pre-ordered a Caramel Latte for her.
"Now we wont have to worry about a cold house or the heating continually being on the blink. The new tradesman will be around tomorrow." She smiled at her husband as she sipped her latte. |
