| (Poor) FOTY and Master 5's celebration |
|
Master 5 had a great week of turning FIVE. He actually slept in on the day - because he was too excited the night before ... telling Miss 8 & I there was only one more sleep.
But he had Kinder at 8:30am.... so at 8am I woke him (he was in my bed!!). At first he rolled over and pulled the Doona over his head. Amazing how quickly this changed when Miss 8 and I started singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and placed a present on his chest.
Instantly he was rubbing his eyes and unwrapping those presents. His eyes lit up with each one ... He almost has a full set of Ben 10 toys (just missing Up-chuck and Stink Fly..... I know crazy names right! and how could I have not thought of them!!) My bed was littered with the wrappings .. but OH it's his birthday!!
He went to kinder willingly and pinned the "5" badge proudly on his chest from a card he got. He took chocolate frogs to share with the other children and kissed me good-bye,
"I'm 5 now Mum," he gleamed. "So I don't like kisses anymore!" he followed.
He makes me smile, he is such a fantastic little boy.
Anyway working from home FOTY (Father Of The Year .... sarcasm) calls to say he'd hurt his back and didn't want to take Master 5 (& us two girls) out to tea anymore. Knowing how much both kids were looking forward to this I knew I had to draw on a counter plan.
So after School / kinder I told the kids Mexican was off and getting the look that should have been FOTY's - I quickly suggested we go for Milkshakes and Ice-creams to celebrate.
After the treat we arrive home just as FOTY is pulling in.
He appears normal, walking upright, although when I look over at him... a couple of times he gives that grimace sort of like "I'm in pain, you saw my face, give me sympathy!"
I just ignore him and talk to the kids!! I don't have to notice that face anymore !! It's now JS's problem! HAHA
He gives Master 5 the new bike from both of us .... and I know this is probably a guy thing, but there's no card, and nothing else.
We order Pizza and I suggest to FOTY he go get it and why not take the kids too!!
Miss 8 doesn't like Pizza and wants McDonalds... FOTY is reluctant to let her have this, he suggests I cook something for her instead ... what an arse!
We are all getting take-away but Miss 8 doesn't like Pizza so she should have home cooked - that I HAVE TO COOK!!!??? what's his problem. He even goes so far as to make a smart comment like -
"She wants McDonalds so she SHOULD get it!"
Then he says, how much is this gonna cost?? I give him that "look" and say sternly
"Do you want some money?"
I think he knew he'd pushed it, he declined and said he should have enough.
So then we eat Pizza (& McDonalds) and he SITS at the table with us for at least 30 minutes.
I leave as soon as I can, cause it's his time with our kids.
He then SITS down on the couch with both of them while Master 5 watches his new Ben10 DVD (Season2) and Miss 8 reads to him, he's SITTING for oh 30 minutes or more.
Now although we had a nice night, and Master 5 enjoyed himself - I fail to see why we could not have gone to the Mexican restaurant like he suggested.
His excuse was it pains him to SIT down for too long ... but he's just driven 40 minutes and unless he's got a sunroof I don't know about he would have been sitting.
Then he's sat at the Dinner table for another 30 minutes, followed by the 30 on the couch.
So couldn't he have done this at the restaurant?? He could've even stood a few times to relieve himself.
I ponder this momentarily, and think of comments my friends make when I tell them about the evening, comments such as
"JS probably didn't want him sitting to dinner as a family with you all!"
"Maybe the engagement ring has set him back too much - and he can't afford it"
"Maybe he's just a dick!"
Master 5 has the final celebration of his 5th birthday on Sunday when we are having his party, wonder if FOTY will make an appearance, but somehow I don't think he will.... Oh well I'm sure Master 5 has had a great week, and Sunday will be awesome for him FOTY or NO FOTY!
** Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I read them out to Master 5 .. and well even though he only listened to a few before going to play Transformers, he smiled when he heard them. **
