| My Saturday night - the abridged version
|
|
|
On Saturday night I went to my cousins' Engagement party, my 23 year old cousin!
Yes I did take him aside and explain he was a little young to be umm getting married. Now before you berate me for doing this, he's always been my favorite cousin, and I still have photo's of him sitting on my knee at Christmas when he was 3 and I was hmmm well older! He assured me he had it under control, because well they aren't getting married for another 14 months! When he'll be 25 almost 26! So I smiled and gave him a hug and said "Yes, you've got this haven't you?" He smiled back and assured me he did.
Anyway as I blogged, I was all dolled up, had a few pre-party drinks (foty's whiskey! ) so I was on fire! Well not literally, but very happy, very smiley and I guess it's true what they say, you always look more attractive when you are smiling.
They had a juke box and being one of the first ones there I think I added the first 20 songs! So I was sort of swaying by the dance floor when I noticed a guy smiling at me, a little mockingly. So I suggested he do better, first mistake! Turns out he was my younger cousins new boyfriend! ooops. No harm done, the three of us chatted and I got to know him well.
Next my cousin (looking out for me) introduces me to one of his groomsmen, who happened to do some part time photography work, but his true passion was in Flying. As in he was a trained pilot, just doing "his hours" to qualify for a pilot job? I'm not sure, I was more interested in discussing the photography work. He offered to take me out on a few photo shoots, he mainly does weddings, but has been known to do 18th, 21st and kids parties. He charges between $600 - $800 per wedding shoot. Then he hands over the disc with the photo's on it, or helps them to select photo's and gets them developed - for extra.!
We were having a great conversation, until his girlfriend (or at least a girl he then spent the rest of the night next to) started staring across the fire at him. He seemed to notice as well and embarrassingly excused himself. But he did give me his business card!
Now you need to remember I'd had another 4 Ruskies (Vodka, lemon & lime) so I was loving the attention these young guys (seemed) to be giving me. So when I noticed a more quiet, demure guy glancing my way, I decided I would have a little fun with it. Eventually he wandered over and we started chatting. He seemed really nice, a little young, but hey we were only having a conversation folks!! Then my Aunties sister came over and says,
"Hey Kellie, how've you been? I see you've met my son Glenn! Glenn this is Liz's niece."
"Oh," we both said. I think if the open fire wasn't blazing we would've both been blushing. He was my Aunties' sisters son .. not blood related but related enough.
Anyway, I don't want you to save me from all that, it was fun, and all innocent.
My Grandmother who is 78, was standing talking with my Dad and myself. The conversation dies off a little and another eldery gentleman comes over. Apparently he's 85 and a friend of the other side of the family. He is looking at my Grandmother, who hasn't noticed him yet.
He touches her on the arm, and as she turns he says looking at her hands,
"Oh I've got arthritis in my fingers too," and he starts comparing his hands with hers, and holds her hand for a minute.
Well it probably wasn't that funny, but my Dad and I look at each other and start cracking up laughing. I whisper to my Dad, "Is that what you use as a pick up line when you are older?"
He starts laughing harder, "Yes," he manages to say.
"Yes, guys still ask me if I come here often, Nana gets told she has the same arthritis as another."
We are laughing so hard, I have tears running down my face. I love it when my Dad laughs, it was a really precious moment in that aspect.
The guy eventually goes leaving my Nana to talk to us again, so Dad tells us this joke, which I'll share with you here -
George is speaking to Hazel and Edna at the nursing home one day, and the ladies tell him they will be able to tell him how old he is if he drops his pants.
So George drops his pants and stands there giving it a little shake, while the ladies stare and ogle him.
"You are 87 George," Edna finally says.
"Yes I am, how'd you guess," asks George pulling his pants back up.
"Because we went to your 87th birthday party yesterday," the ladies reply laughing.
(or maybe one had a stroke and the other one couldn't reach! Oh sorry that's bad!)
Anyway so there you go my Saturday night was great fun, and no I didn't get back online, I wasn't feeling so good after mixing Whiskey and Vodkas!
So I went home to bed, yes bed, Alone, and once I found the switch to stop the room spinning I fell asleep!

It's a shame when other people have to tell people they are too young to get married. It's different for everyone. People like to ruin the best days of people's lives. You know he went to his fiancee and told her what you said, now she will not like you. I know I wouldn't. Then you go to pick up guys or to see how many will flirt with you. A party like this is not where you pick up guys because more than likely you will be related or someone you are related to will be with them. Bad choice to get an ego trip.

DEAR SMVANDIV - With regards to your comment :-
"It's a shame when other people have to tell people they are too young to get married. Bad choice to get an ego trip."
=================================================== =
My cousin knew I was saying it tongue in cheek!! His fiancee and I do LIKE each other! She laughed about my comment and threw back an equally tongue in cheek one back at me.
I DID NOT go to see how many guys I could flirt with or could flirt with me - that was just the nature of a friendly crowd!
As if I would go picking up men at a party where my parents and Aunties/uncles and grandmother were at. I am not like that at all. But that does not mean I am going to sit in a corner and sip lemonade.
"Bad Choice for an ego trip!" - Any good attention is an ego trip - it does not have to be from the male population!
Maybe I'm taking your comments a bit too much to the word, but I find you a little presumptious. But please keep commenting, I like varied opinions.
=================================================== ==========
KarKar - It was great fun, nice clean innocent fun with family.
Funnyman - It was an enjoyable night :)
Erin - Oh I enjoyed not being a Mum so much, mind you I wouldn't give up being a Mum for anything, but the children were staying at friends so they had their own fun anyway.
BigD - YES I am a LIGHTWEIGHT!! I wouldn't normally mix my drinks, it just happened that way, and I did stop drinking when I got to a certain point, which is what I always do.
Ashley - thank you, I have to point out I rarely drink, so to enjoy a few was a nice change, and there is no harm in flirting.
Prelude - thank you, I enjoyed spending time with the family at such an occassion. Thank you for your always positive comments too. :)
SlowtoLearn - My Dad has the best sense of DRY humour, which is where i get it from. For him to really laugh at something does not happen enough. So I really enjoyed that moment.
Amy - LOL.... aww flirty duck!? Lol.
crystyanne - I love my Nana she's great, but the older gentleman moment, was just too cute to ignore

Easy I was once in your shoes. When I used to drink I would feel more attractive because I had a smile on my face and the men do smile back and it is amplified and it made me feel like a big flirt although that was not my plan.
I do not think you went just to flirt but your plan was to have fun and feel good about yourself and doll up and there is not a thing wrong with that.
You have to fix up for events because..........you run into a hot guy. First impressions are the best and they do stick with a man, so keep your MAN RADAR on girlfriend.
GLAD YOU HAD A GOOD TIME
