 I helped foty ... or did I !????
Tonight was planned to be a huge event for FOTY!   Only been attempted ONCE in the last 13months....
he was putting on the I'm a real Dad Costume  and having his kids overnight ..
yep you read it right ...  the second time in 13 months ...  what a Dad.
Hence why he's the undisputed foty title holder (Father Of The Year) ... challenges are welcome!

Anyway so Tuesday we had a bit of a debacle about the sleep over. So I gave foty some advice regarding setting up tonight so it was emotion free - except for excitement emotion.  He emailed me today telling me some of what he'd done - based on my advice, and whether there was anything else he should do.
*shock* &  *horror* he's listened to me for the first time in awhile!  Mind you - he suggested I LIE to the kids and say I'm busy so he needs to "BABY SIT". Firstly let me blow that away ... No need for lying ... and secondly when does looking after your OWN kids turn into BABY SITTING??

I give him all these suggestions and he thanks me.

Next job, make the kids comfortable about it - Miss 8 was actually unwell today, and I can't help wonder whether a tiny bit of it was stress related.  So I walked lightly through it with her and made sure she was okay with it.

Then I start the plan .. and honestly I did not intend for this to turn into a Nanny McPhee situation!! LOL

The kids and I chat on the way home from my Parents, and Miss 8 as you may remember from our QLD holiday loves snakes, and she wanted a "kids" python, but I can't afford the set up cost or the snake cost ($500). Instead she got a rubber snake. She often puts it in the fridge to try to "surprise" me .. so I act all surprised the kids laugh and next time I find it under my doona in my bed ... it's funny.

I get a brainwave on the way home and I say to the kids,

"Hey, why don't you take your snake and put it in JS's fridge!"

"YERRRR they chime in."  Miss 8 goes on to say how "girly" JS is and how she oohss and ahhs in a high voice!

Complete opposite to me I'm glad to say.  This starts a train of conversation that makes me giggle. We could put our frog here and the plastic spiders there ...

I digress ... this morning Master 5 cheekily said "Shut Up" to Miss 8 - now I don't let them speak like that, and I pulled him up on it ... but unwittingly I started teaching them the Joe Dulci song .. you know
"SHUT UPA YOUR FACE"

I taught them the chorus - - -

What's-a matter you? Hey! Gotta no respect.
What-a you t'ink you do? Why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place.

Ah, shaddap-a you face!

So after we plan the spiders in the bed, the snake in the fridge, a frog on the pillow case and oh a fake arm I bought years ago, hanging out of their drawers they tell me they are going to sing the song I taught them to Joanna!! Oooh Oh I think to myself.  Yerr sure I say .. hmmm this will be interesting.

So foty comes at 6pm (yes he got here earlier) - first suggestion followed.

He says a quick hi to me and starts putting their stuff in the car - second suggestion followed.
I suggested he do the pick up quick so Master 5 doesn't get a chance to think about it.

He packed their sleeping bags, cause I'd suggested they take them and "camp" out in the lounge while they watched movies.
He ushers them into the car ... I'd put the actual Joe Dulci song on Miss 8's mp3 player and shown them how they could listen to it, one ear plug each.  Foty gave them a surprise gift that I'd suggested - he even got exactly what I mentioned .. A Whoopee cushion for Master 5 and a wind up toy for Miss 8.

And I suggested that he not get them to call me to say good night - because last time they slept at my Mum & Dad's I called them to say good night and Master 5 got really upset and cried for 30 mins for me to come get him.  So I haven't spoken to them tonight   but it is only 1 night and they'll be back soon enough.

I wonder how JS is coping with snakes, frogs .. oh and slime and a crocodile ... in her girly home.

Now I want to mention something that I'm sure you all already know ....
I did all of the above for my kids - not for foty!
As far as he's concerned I couldn't care any less about him - and I almost said that today ... but I didn't feel the need.
I guess this means I'm forgiving him?? I don't know.

Bring on the snake and the slime!!!  and Nanny McPhee ... eat your heart out!!

lmao!! I would like to suggest Princess' "father" for the new title...especially since he hasn't called, written, or seen for a year.......He is truly a FOTY
Actually he's a sperm donor more than anything...thank God she got my genes and not his

All those hijinx tonite will I think go a long way to prove something:
1)He laughs and realizes what he is missing not having his kids more
2)He freaks out and shows himself to truly be what he seems to be
3)JS enjoys this and gains some points w/ the kids
4)JS freaks out and his reaction to that will speak volumes
5)He catches them in the planning and helps them pull it off, which basically is the 1st one but even more fun
I hope it is an "odd" night

WK - jury is out - I want them to have fun, I want him to realise - can't believe I'm the one helping with this though ... but as I said I do it for the kids .. not for him!

Your evil twin is kicking in again. *Smile* I bet they did have a great time trying to scare JS (AKA homewrecker), I hope it worked! Anyway like I said before there is nothing wrong with you trying to make life softer for the kids! Keep the good work up!
I love your new kitty pic! Or um.... Avatar?

Easy .... again handled with brilliance. You need to write a book on dealing with these kind of situations ... maybe even a book geared at children who are dealing with the new routines and changes that divorce brings. Others could benefit from all you are learning. I know it would be a best seller and then you would have the money when it comes time to pay FOTY the rest of the money. Peace.
