Girly girl or a Tom Boy ..which are you?
I'm not sure if it was my day off at school when these categories became important, but Miss 8 certainly was at school on the appropriate day.  And for the past year she's insisted she's a Tom Boy.
Girly girl I am not, she would tell me when I tried to braid her hair in the mornings.

"No thanks, a high pony tail." she'd request.  On the odd occassion I'd braid a bit and then put it up, but she'd always take it out and ask me to do it plain and simple.

But the tide turned the other night, one of her school buddies was on the phone and I heard her friend say,
"Miss 8, I need to tell you something, and it's important."

Sorry I know I shouldn't be 'eaves dropping, but Miss 8 has a habit of putting her phone calls on speaker, and I was right behind her in the kitchen, so I couldn't "not" listen ... could I?  Oh okay, but I chose to listen ..

Miss 8 getting back to her friend says casually,
"What do you want to tell me."

"I'm a Girly Girl." Her friend says sounding a bit hesitant.
"Oh I know that," Miss 8 interjects. "You've told me that before."
"Well it's because well, you get to wear nicer clothes when you are a girly girl. And you don't get a boyfriend if you are a Tom Boy.  Boys don't like Tom Boys."
"Yer, I know." Miss 8 says casually.

I listen on to their conversation, and wondered whether I was a girly girl, or a Tom Boy.
Then I decide I wasn't either, I was too busy playing sport to worry about whether I wore bows or boots.

I'm not sure about myself...I loved to ride my bike and catch lizards and toads..was always looking for rattle snakes...turning over big rocks looking for scorpions. Then again I loved my Barbies...we would bring all our Barbie stuff out onto the front yard...set up the townhouse, airplane and motor home.Occasionally the boys would bring out their G.I. Joe command center...so of course the G.I. Joes were the boyfriends, lol.

I wanted t be a girly girl, but I had to be pratical, living on a farm and studing hard all the time.

I used to be a tomboy - I actually collected catipillars and let them crawl up and down my arm - yuck. Now I am girly, girl in that I love dressing up and making myself look pretty, but I am not afraid of getting dirty - which is a good thing since I am total slob!

I was a tomboy growing up, loved climbing trees, riding dirt bikes with my neighbor, but I also had a girly girl side. Still do! I can get dressed up for the opera and get dirty while hiking and camping. I think I'm a nice balance, smile. My daughter is the same nice balance. Good question!

Well her friend is WRONG!!!!
Most of the girls I liked as a kid were tomboys..sitting here I can think of not one girly girl I liked till at least college and even then I still liked the tom boy types also.
Miss 8 is going to be fine, I have a feeling she is going to outshine all the other girls in her group. She is one smart kid
