All I want for Mothers Day is a GPS
I've been singing this in my head to the tune of "All I want for christmas is my two front teeth!" since the start of the week.   Oh I know I am not going to get a GPS or a SATNAV but..... and honestly it's not high on my "needs to have" list..... but I'd really love one.

But gone are the days of "really" wanting something and just getting it.
That is something that FOTY & I were bad at - impulse buys.

See the thing is, I am geographically challenged.  I'll admit it.
In the past 12 months, this has been proven many times -
but fortunately nowadays it is only the kids
and myself in the car, so I often get away with it.

Except the night of FOTY's mum's wedding, it's 11pm at night, we are in outback Frankston, 40 minutes from home.  We have to be up the next morning at 6am to leave for the airport ... and what do i do??
I turn the wrong way out of a street and head in the
completely opposite direction than I need to go.

I'm driving along unfamiliar roads, mind you the correct direction would have been similar in that it was unfamiliar.  I don't go to this neck of Melbourne much at all.  Suddenly I realise the signs are not saying what I would expect them to say.  There is no Melbourne xx kms away, but there are other suburbs listed ..
which means oo Oh I'm going the wrong way.

So I turn around and head back to where I started.
I begin to doubt myself so I pull over and grab the MELWAYS (maps of Victoria).
I look up my location, turn the map the right way ... ie. so that it is upside down but the road I'm on is heading the same direction as the rotated map .. and I head off again.
But here's where a GPS would come in handy..... I miss the turn off back towards the right street.... If I had a satnav or GPS I would have had an annoying (most likely american - no offense) voice telling me to turn left at next street.  Ended up getting it right eventually, and got home around midnight!

You see I think my problem is FOTY used to drive everywhere when we went places.  Not the problem, the problem was I never used to "watch" where we were going, so I wouldn't remember.  Not sure what I did watch when we were driving places.  Now I have no choice, no zoning out when I'm driving.
Hmmm probably should just stick to what I know ... the quickest road to the local shopping centre .... ahhhh retail therapy ... mmmm a GPS!!!

So anyway I'll keep singing ...

All I want for Mothers Day is a G-P-S

one day, one day!!

Easy I feel your pain. I have no sense of direction. Yesterday I had to drop off Tims car at the shop. He drives a Mustang, I drive a Beetle aka bubble. You would of thought I was trying to park a semi, good grief.

bjm1 - I know crazy huh! Comfort zone driving .. now there's a term I like and know. thanks for stopping by.

Pita - I have to admit I can't even tell you which way is South, North, East or West... I just know the sun rises in the East and sets in the west... at least I think that is what happens *scratching head*

After a few embarrassing moments with real estate clients ... unable to find the house I was supposed to show them ... they were following me and I was driving in circles ... I got a GPS system. It's worth every single penny. Mine shows me street names ... has turn by turn voice and a bell that chimes as you approach the intersection where you are supposed to turn. If I make a wrong turn the lady says "recalculating route" and I'm back on track in no time at all. When you get to where you are going the ladie's voice says "you have arrived." I even use it outside of business. It's my security blanket and when I get to my showing I can concentrate on my client's needs and not be all frazzled and upset because I was lost.

:) I sympathise with you, Easy. I have the most horrid sense of direction too. Like you said, its probably because its always someone else driving, so I'm mostly enjoying the ride, listening to music, not bothered about routes and everything :)
I get ya...and I hope you get your GPS :)
