A warm, milky sun dipped into the ocean’s cooling water, melting down, giving way to the moon and its black night. A breath of wind brushed her bare neck. She instinctively reached out her hand and touched the back of her neck, her eyes looking at the beautiful sunset. She sat on the beach, accompanied by millions of silver white sand, creating beautiful waves around her. She rubbed her arms hastily as another sea breeze came in. Cold crept into her body, leaving her with goose bumps.
She self consciously raise her hand and touch her head. She shut her eyes tight, breathing hard. She opened them again and looked up into the violet sky. She drew in a breath again and rocked herself gently to and fro, tears brimming in her bright green eyes. She felt her chest feeling heavy, as she sobbed harder. Her hands flew to her chest, pressing hard at where her heart lay, beating so fast that it was enough to last for a lifetime. She could feel herself out of breath and scolded herself silently. So easily sad, so easily angry, so easily weak…
She could hear footsteps crunching as quietly as can be, coming near her. She didn’t turn around. She brushed her arm over her eyes furiously, ashamed to be caught crying. ‘I don’t want to go.’ she said coldly, ‘I’m staying here.’ She pressed her hands onto the sand firmly, determined not to be moved. A glimpse of white caught the corner of her eye as the woman stood beside her. ‘But…’
She interrupted her, turning towards her with her green eyes shining with tears. ‘He’s coming for me here and no where else. We promised each other, that this is our place…’ The woman walked a few more steps, her arms wide open. But she darted as fast as she could, her hands waving in the air. ‘No, no…he wants me here, he wants me here…’ she said softly, turning to the sea, now where a moon hung. The woman looked worried, ‘You’re going to be alright, everything’s alright. You just need to get back into your bed, eat your medications and everything will be alright…’
She shook her head. ‘I’m not crazy for doing this. I know today’s it. It can’t be more obvious…’ her eyes widened, her voice lowering into a soft whisper, ‘He’s coming for me!’ The woman looked deathly pale now. She held out her hand, ‘Come, you…you need something for your…head…’ She shook her head and sat back down. ‘I’m going to wait for him. We promised each other, that if one of us went first, the other must wait. So I’m waiting.’ The woman looked terribly worried, she ran back up onto the pavements and away. She needed someone to help the poor woman, someone who could fix her heart…
She smiled as she saw the woman running away. Now nobody would disturb her reunion with him. She felt breath being snatched away from her lungs, her chest suddenly heaving, trying to gasp for air. But her face looked calm and steady. She closed her eyes and smiled, muttering softly, ‘There you are…I knew you’d come…let’s go…’ She suddenly fell onto the sand, her smile still on her face, her chest no longer heaving. She lay there, motionless. Someone’s voice filled the air. It was the woman in white. She hurried someone over and gasped. She was so shocked; her fingers trembled as she knelt down beside the body, lifting up the bald head and her shoulders. Someone else helped into lifting the body up, the pink hospital wear fluttering at the edges as another sea breeze blew in…
