ELIA NOTE:
I have been keeping several blogs on several different sites.
This article has brought a response I was not expecting at my wordpress blog.
Now, I did research this article before I posted it. And, I could not find any info to the contrary about this article.
Now, two InfraGard members have contacted me on my wordpress blog and here is what they have to say.....

I’ve been a member of the Phoenix InfraGard Members Alliance for several years, and I found the Progressive article pretty silly. InfraGard membership is open to anyone, and most of its meetings and activities are open to the public. It’s an organization devoted to helping protect the 80%+ of U.S. critical infrastructure that is privately owned that originally started as a group to help businesses secure their IT infrastructure and then expanded to physical infrastructure.
Members aren’t deputized, they don’t have “shoot to kill” privileges, they don’t have any rights that any U.S. citizen doesn’t have, and they aren’t engaged in spying for the government. They do share information with each other, they do report criminal activity and concerns to the FBI, and the FBI does provide alerts to members about potential threats to critical infrastructure.
I’ve given talks to InfraGard groups in multiple states about information security threats, and the content of those talks is not secret–I’ve given quite similar talks (the content varies by date, as I keep them up-to-date) to other groups.

I’m also an InfraGard member (former president of the Eastern Carolina chapter) and would like to confirm what Jim has already said.
This work of journalistic fiction from “The Progressive” is, unfortunately, spreading an amazingly evil fairy tale about a good organization.
