Have you ever walked into a quiet room of people and noticed that none of them are looking at you. They see you and they nod in acknowledgement but other than that you are all alone. Its uncomfortable. Whether you shuffle through the room timid or you stride through the room confidently they just ignore you...
But if you walk into a decently vacant room with only a few people they are more accepting of the new company, not as reserved. But I guess that depends on where the room is, doesn't it? If you walk in to a room 3 or 4 people are in at a monastary the room will still be awkwardly quiet. But if your in a room with five or six teenagers they are much more talkative. |

Interesting thoughts...if they ignore you, then maybe you can find your own way to include yourself on the conversation? Or if you are shy, just stand a little away from the group but try to look calm and relaxed and even happy if you can, and hopefully someone will come over to you or else ask you to join in an an existing conversation. Looking nervous or anxious doesn't make it easier for people to approach you
