| Beer, Evets and Yoda |
Meeting Evets was about like sitting down with an old friend. For me it was odd... there was none of the momentary lapse for things to say like you have with someone you do not know very well. We met at a place that pastor mike introduced him to some time ago. I was impressed with the place as I had plenty of time to check it out because I showed up 2 hours early. I decided that drinking for 2 hours before I met up with someone one for the first time may not be the best of ideas. I had not read the email close enough so being that early was my fault. So I went around the corner and found the coffee shop that I ended up blogging from. After sitting at the shop for a bit and taking in the atmosphere, before I knew it I found it was time to meet Evets. Back on the street again I found confirmation that I truly loved the energy I felt from the area. Such a good mix of people and so many neat shops and stores, I could spend a lot of time here just going from place to place looking at all of the stuff.
Turning the corner and walking down the side walk to the pub/restaurant I actually walked right passed Evets who was on the phone standing out side. I was to busy looking at a building across the street to pay much attention to the people outside. But as I walked passed him he immediately flagged me down. He was on the phone so he told me that he would be in, in just a moment. In stead of going inside I stayed out side looking at buildings and feeling like a little kid looking at this building with a giant Jack-o-lantern on top. And when I say big I mean big… I would guess it was at least 15-20 ft tall by 30 ft. wide if not a lot bigger. It was one of those light weight blown up decorations you see in people yards during he holidays. Only it was at a much bigger scale. And of course it was all lit up so it caught my attention.
Well as I am involved in looking at the pumpkin giant, Evets finishes his conversation and we say hello with the traditional hand shake one handed man hug… women tend to shriek and hug and bounce when the see an old friend or meet someone for the first time and are excited. Men… we nod… shake hands… and man hug… some guys can chest bump or pound fists… each man has to judge which is appropriate for the occasion. Evets was a lot taller than I expected but then again I really did not know what to expect…. Well and I am shortish so he seemed tallish to me. But he was not so much different than I thought he would be except he was younger than I imagined. Because of his posts and how he comes across on thoughts, I pictured someone a bit older than he was.
We go inside where I meet his brother who also is a heck of a guy… we order a beer and talk. We had hoped to see dreadnaught but she was not able to make it. So we settled in and tried several different types of brews… and I found out from Evets and his brother that when I have questions related to beer that pastor mike will be the person I need to get in touch with. I was told he was the yoda of brew. Those are my words…
I did find that when ordering beer in an unknown place and there is no price list for what you’re looking at… that the general rule of thumb applies… “If you have to ask you can’t afford it.” It was not as bad as all that really I am just not used to seeing beer that runs 10-19.00 dollars a bottle. But we tried some new things, and I think I may have found a few new favorites. As we sat we talked about life… about thoughts… about a lot of things. Just a group of guys sitting down for a few beers… I can only hope that all the rest of my future meet and greets with other thoughts members go as smoothly as this has.
After a while though these guys have a long drive ahead of them so we had to call it a night. We parted ways and then I ummm got lost lol kinda. I hit the hotel button on my GPS not realizing that two locations were saved and it took me 20 miles out of my way. After I finally got on the right track and headed back to the hotel I crashed shortly there after.
This was a good visit and I have promised to come this way again… I look forward to picking up the tab the next time… Evets is as he shows us here at thoughts a good guy and a true gentleman. Thanks for meeting with me brother it is one of the highlights of my trip.
Smile… when meeting with friends the place you meet is not always important… but the people around you can make for some interesting conversation.
