I have read two books that talked about how to be successful in life before I turned fourteen. After so much information on my head, I thought I was the greatest.
After awhile, confusion took me by surprise again, I didn’t understand how I committed so much mistakes, how come I couldn’t do something like talking to “sweet princess” when I have the chances or how come when I thought something I was right it was wrong or when I said something to be wrong it was actually right.
While reading the last opportunity by Carlos Cuauhtemoc (I recommend it), my eyes passed through the title that said, “Bend your pride.” This is what I learned that is now for you (I’ll write by memory since I can’t find the book right now): To explain humility, let’s think about a man who can see, from far, a mountain where there is green grass, pure water and fruits of every class but that mountain is surrounded by the void. This is a metaphor for a classic man in life who says, and it may be, that he knows what is the way to behave to find success but when the moment arrives he doesn’t apply that knowledge because of pride therefore he still is where he is, mad and disconcerted in life without knowing what he did wrong. Humility is that bridge to get to such dreamed place.
I already have read that article, I already knew it and I thought that I was already humble… at that instant I remember all my mistakes and how much they hurt, I remembered about how much I was confused; at that instant, I realized that my heart was full of pride; that I was not the most special boy, I am, but everyone is, too. I learned that I can learned a lot from everyone, even a little kid, at that instant I cried, like most of the time quietly and my spirit was one more time washed.
After that day, strangely I became happier. God knows better than us, his ways are higher than our ways, his thoughts are higher that our thoughts, as heaven is higher than the earth. (Isaiah 55: 8-10). He knows why he gives us commandments; commandments are to make us happy, one of the commandments is to be humble as Jesus Christ was. That’s why I was happy… “I like to learn and I would keep learning for the rest of my life”.
Now, please, hear me… humility never loses, try to be humble, recognize that you can learn from your neighbor, from your mom, from your brother, your sister, or from a little kid (devotion, tenderness, love, full of energy, passion, etc), even from me… Let’s recognize that everyone in something is special and good at, that there are people who in something are better than us (smarter, stronger, funnier, etc). Let's learn from them and let's let them learn from us. |
