What a day. I must admit that I'm glad it's almost over. We're getting closer to our Haiti trip! We leave Tuesday night at 10pm, but tomorrow is the day we have to pack all of the stuff that needs to go in the big suitcases - all of our own stuff (clothes, etc) goes with us in a carry-on size bag. This is a reallys scary thing for me, the girl who must bring 10 outfits "just in case." So - tomorrow morning the packing and praying begins.
Anyway- back to what matters most! I met Jesus tonight! She worked at a store where I was picking up some last minute things for our devotional time in Haiti. She let me into her line though she'd already turned off that light that tells you she's open. She checked me out and I asked her how her day was - her reply, "It's been good. I have some big things happening in my life right now and this is a good way for me to keep my mind off of them." I wasn't sure if she was dealing with a marital issue, if she was ill, or what exactly was going on. Before I knew it she told me that her mother was really ill and lived down state. So she was taking off tonight after work (10pm) to go and visit with her this weekend. I didn't want to pry, but when she asked me why I was buying the strange stuff I bought I told her I was going to Haiti on a mission trip and that I am a pastor. She said, "Well if you're a pastor then you can pray for my mom." I said, yes I can.
Tonight I met Jesus in a woman who needed to talk to someone. I just happened to be the someone who had the joy of standing in front of her. I met someone who trusted a stranger with intimate information. I met Jesus in her love for serving and caring for people. I met Jesus as I prayed for Gladys.
Would you join me and pray for Gladys too? Sounds like she could use it. And if you have time maybe you could pray for this woman as she travels too.
Thanks, and I hope you met Jesus today too.
