 Humility and Unity
After the flood the children of Noah gathered in Bavel to build a high tower to make for themselves a name. In Hebrew the word name often means reputation or value and can be negative or positive. In this case it implies vanity. The commentaries explain that some of them wanted to put on top of it a statue with a sword in its hand as a sign of rebellion against HaKadosh Baruch Hu. Others said that once every 1656 years the sky falls as it did during the time of the flood, consequently a support is needed. Man was created to be a servant of G-d, therefore his pride is his knowledge of the Creator, not the power of his hands. Pride in ones physicality is typically a subtle rebellion. In the case of those who wanted a sword bearing statue, it was open. The ones who wanted the tower for safety really knew better but were hiding behind a "scientific explanation." The result was that they could not understand each other and became scattered. From this result we can imply the opposite -- Humility results in understanding and unity.
