The goldmine that is my daughter's boyfriend
One of the benefits of my children reaching the age of acquring boyfriends and girlfriends is the veritable goldmine of humourous nuggets I am presented with for my amusement.

No one is more generous in this department than my 18 year old Miss Smarty Pants' current beau. He is a polite and respectful lad, treats my daughter well, however, he seems to be wanting in the intelligence department...which has only served to be an endless source of amusement; I know it is questionable to laugh or find amusement at the expense of others...but I am careful to present an outwardly calm facade whenever he offers me one of these little nuggets of jocoseness.

Today saw him offer me another such gem, on a plate, literally. I was making myself a sandwich this afternoon when Miss Smarty Pants with beau in tow entered the kitchen...being all politeness I asked whether either of them would like one, and with two answers in the positive I set about my task of making a sandwich for the both of them.

From my children's primary school years there has been a long running joke that involves me cutting their sandwiches in to quarters, small squares, which now is somewhat of a habit whenever I make sandwiches. So, taking my usual route I make the sandwiches and then cut them into quarter squares then placed them in front of Miss Smarty Pants and beau.

Imagine my astonishment and high amusement when "beau" answered this act with a polite "Thank you, Ms Daizee", followed by "Oh, I don't like my sandwiches cut into small squares or cut at all, it doesn't fill me up as much as an uncut sandwich."

"Really?" He left me no choice other than to beat a hasty retreat to a safe haven where I could count my blessings that he handed me another nugget and release my gratitude with peals of laughter.

Is it wrong of me to want my daughter to keep this one just so I have an endless source of free entertainment? ;)

Big D and southernsun, I don't think I'll be able to look at a cut sandwich in the same light again and certainly not without a smirk touching my face.

Wait until I get around to telling the stop sign story that involves "sandwich boy". ;)

Oh man, Daizee, just don't let her breed with him! I loved "beau in tow" - it sounds so Dr. Seuss! LOL

Everyone has their moments.. Some funnier than others. This was a pleasant read.

I know someone that once blew on their ice cream out of habit to cool it off and on the same day reached for a seat belt when she sat down at the movie theatre..

Oh wait that was me :/

Thanks for starting my day off with a smile!

Great post! It's fantastic that you can extricate such amusement from life's everyday happenings.

If he treats your daughter well, then I likewise hope he remains a resource for you as well.

If he's amusing, treats your daughter well and is polite too, why not keep him around? How is your daughter able to keep a straight face around him?

Daizee:
Next time sit him down and do the fraction math "with" him,
then maybe he will understand.

Next time give him a great big 'doorstep'. Much more filling - lol

Daizee, that is precious.

It's funny though, that is a running joke with my parents (who have warped sense of humours) when they make sandwiches or pizza. They say only cut them into this many (eg. 4 or 8) as I'm hungry today or not hungry today.

I'll bet when he starts to drive, if he doesn't already, that he'll drive through at McDonalds and ask for him meal to "take away".

Good luck with that one :)

Awww, cut the boy some slack. Addledessence is hard enough without having to be coherent in front of your girlfriends MOTHER! I once knew a teen who loved gymnastics, and when she saw kids on a trampoline on T.V. asked the Dad of the guy she was dating, "have you ever jumped on a tramp?" No, wasn't me, but I'm not saying who. SIS.
