 Devotion / poem after Chrysalis
I’ve read the stories:
You take ordinary people and make them heroes, like
Miriam, Moses, David, Mary, John, Peter et al.
All they did was say, "Yes,"
And even so, they resisted at first,
Until you persuaded them and broke them.

So I boldly assert that I give myself to you;
I will do your will.

“Do you really think you’re up to it?” is your reply, “Will you do this for me?”
“Of course!" I respond, "I’ll do anything for you!”
“Well, it could take a long time.”
“I know I can deal with it!”
“And it will not be easy.”
“I'm certain I can deal with it!”
“It will be a lot of work.”
“I think I'll be able to deal with it.”
“Some people will laugh at you.”
“I suppose I will have to deal with it.”
“Others will try to hurt you, too.”
“I imagine I can deal with that, too.”
“You will lose friends.”
“I’d rather not, but I’ll figure out how to deal with it.”
“You will be persecuted.”
“I think I could, maybe, deal with it …”
“You will be labeled the outcast, the weirdo, the freak.”
“I … hope I'd manage to deal with that.”
“You will be persecuted because you work for me.”
“Well, I think I might be able to deal with it if I have to.”
“There will be pain.”
“I really expect  -- are you sure I’ll have deal with that?”
“You will die an excruciating death for me.”
“I … oh my God! Help me please!”
“Oh! You want me to help you? I thought you’d never ask.”

I’ve read the stories:
You take ordinary people and make them heroes, like
Ruth, Noah, Saul, Judith, Paul, Andrew et al,
All they did was say, "Yes," but then
They asked you for energy, to endure for you,
They asked you for wisdom, to excel for you,
They asked you for direction, to succeed for you,
They asked you for strength, to suffer for you,
They asked you for peace, to persist through pain for you,
They asked you for contentment, to trust in you,
You gave them hope,
And you gave them a promise:
To live forever with you!
