*sigh* it seems Ireland really is where I am destined to be. Everytime I have contemplated moving somewhere else, like Germany( don't get my wrong I wanna see you Opa, but nothings quite as gorgeous as the Emerald Isle) my heart calls me to Ireland. I don't know if this is a common thing to most Irish decendants, but hell I feel it all the time. Maybe I romaticize the thought of moving back home and living quietly in a small village a little much, but hey, I don't think that's so wrong. I've always been a bit of a dreamer, I think it's done me some good too. Actually lets be honest, I am a poster child for Idealists and those who are overly optimistic. And Ireland seems like a good place to be like that. Now I know that everyone says the Irish are bitter drunks, but my family isn't so. They try to look past all the bad in everything. Hey we need those 2 pounds of butter for the cake....but we'll just not have cake, we'll have potatoes! Yes we are fairly stereotypical, but there is always truth in stereotypes right? right.
I like my potatoes, my whiskey in my Irish stew, just how gran'ma makes them.
But thats beside the point. Ireland calls to me, it says "come live on the farm and write, just like you really want to! and forget what everyone else expects of you."
I've been writing since I was probably 10..making up stories since I was born... but in recent years, lets say the past 4 or 5 I have become extremely interested with politics. Particularly politics in Ireland. The conflict that is continuing there is a problem that often leaves me wanting to resolve it. I do know I am not the only person that hears about whats going on their and wants to solve it, but really it recieves very little attention from the outside media. If I want to hear about something even remotely about Ireland and the on going politics there, I have to tune into B.B.C or search the internet! -- b.b.c never even gurantees anything on it-- so I am left turning to the internet to find something. Then I read and my blood boils, and I wonder why my country ( Canada) isn't doing more to aid them, find a solution or even cover it! We will pour out money to africa, and afaganistan and Iraq, but what about bloody Ireland? Does no one care? No I guess not. just a few lone Canadians. And I am going to do something about it. I want to have this recognized by our government.
Before I go further, I am not saying Africa, our troops in Afganistan and Iraq, don't deserve our aid and support, they do...Well personally I don't agree that the troops should be there but I will still support them despite my anger... They deserve our aid to the fullest extent, but do we want to see Ireland get worse? No, well I sure don't.
More and more I am feeling the need that it's not enough and I know I am right. I just wish my fellow Irish-Canadians would stand up for their Homeland so to speak.
We're the fighting Irish aren't we?
Cheers

excuse me? Whiskey in stew? Gawd, yer granny was a lush! lol I hope as a fellow irishman you can take the stick! lol It's heartening to know that you harbour a kindness to your homeland and your people of origin but I would like to ask your forebearance. I would like you to consider that we are trying to avoid being the fighting irish and we are trying to overcome those barriers that divide us by name but not nature. As for moving here, dear canadian cousin, this is a changed land and we would be glad to see you but sad at your disillusionment. Being part of the UK, we have gladly opened our heart and land to those less fortunate, and they have come and come in droves that we never imagined and now fill our streets with litter and bottles and drugs and despair. Our island remains green but humbled under a great weight of duty to our fellow human beings

I would add that a lot of the litter, bottles, drugs and despair are our own!
