Valentine's Day has come and gone, and yet i still cant seem to get over this incredibly depressing holiday. I was forced to work on this insanely horrible day, which i hate with an undying passion, and working the front desk on this day is probably the most sad and depressing thing you could do in the hell that we call the hospital.
Hundreds of Red roses and Vases of flowers came across my desk. Deliveries of chocolates and cookies and candies floated paste in haste. Monkies and Teddy bears, and droopy eyed puppy-dogs stared at me with their unrelenting gazes. How they seemed to mock me.
"Where is your fluffy little friend, Alyssa?" they say through the fur over their eyes. "Didnt you get a valentine's tooooooooOOOOOoooooOOOOo?" Stupid animals. Thats why you got STUFFED!
Why do we even celebrate this rediculous day to begin with? So that Hallmark can get even more money for their insanely sappy cards that sing "Wild Thing" or the all-famous "Lets Get it On" when you open them? Or so that hershey's can tantalize the already too-fat america into getting even fatter so that their pockets can as well? Or are we intreagued by sending the roses that cost $50 for them to just wither and die in 3 days? Or are we celebrating the 6 gang members that were pelted with machine gun bullets in a warehouse in Chicago by the infamous Al Capone? Either way you look at it, Valentine's Day, is just not a good day.
My older sister recieved one gift a day for the whole week of valentines. From 3 different males. One of those, being a Marine who is currently in Iraq. Including chocolates, balloons, a box of cookies with a note saying "My love, Here's your effin cookie." an inside joke from the days of when they dated in highschool. Complete with an all day trip to the spa for even more beautification that my sister just does not need. She is beautiful no matter what she does.
But no matter how much I, or anyone, may hate this day, everyone wishes and hopes that they will recieve some gift or token of someones appreciation. To know that they are thought about, reveared in anothers eyes. Wanted. Sought after. Liked. Loved. Even me.
But for those of us who are not thought of, reveared, wanted, sought after, liked, or loved on this particular day... just remember that even if you recieve no token, or chocolate, or teddy bear... You are liked. You are loved. You have touched the life of another. Whether it be your significant other, your parent, your child, or someone on your blog site
Happy Valentines Day, to all of you.
