| The Fear Of Death. |
So if you've ever been in a situation where you've had death stare you straight in the face, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, you can only strive to understand.
Everyone has a fear of death. It's completely natural. We're afraid of it because it is mysterious. We don't know what comes after. And that scares the living shit out of us. The unknown has and always will be the plague of our nightmares.
Have you ever had to stare straight down the barrel of a gun pointed at your face by someone who you know could very well use it? It's quite possibly one of the scariest things that can ever happen to you. Until you've been there, you will never know the fear. Knowing that that person has the power to take away everything you've ever known with the squeeze of a trigger. It cuts to the core of you. After something like that, you have to take a kind of moral inventory of your life you know? But the most overwhelming aspect of death is the helplesness. You know there's most likely nothing you can do to save yourself. There's almost no way you could get that gun away before they can blow your brains out.
One of the main purposes of religion is to provide hope in an afterlife that will never end. But I, as well as plenty of others, don't believe in any type of afterlife. I believe that our bodies die, and we simply cease to exist. I don't NOT believe in spirits or the soul persay, but enough evidence has not become available to me to make an educated decision. So death is nothing but the end of life. There is no pain, no judgment, no eternal damnation, no glorious golden city, just nothing. So really, death is kind of like when you fall into the lava on your last life in the 8th world of Super Mario Bros. You get pissed, throw the controller, and take a marijuana induced nap. Except in death your nap is DMT induced. And you don't wake up. And it might hurt a little more. Of course you might not have time to get pissed either. Or scared for that matter. Some people die happy on accident.
Anyways, there's no reason to fear death, however death is not something that should be prematurely embraced. While I believe that when the act of living becomes too much for the body to handle, death is natural and necessary, I don't believe that suicide is ever an answer to emotional problems. Some circumstances involving illness can be understandable, but in most cases, life should be cherished.
Trust me, I've had my bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts. But you realize that all the beautiful perfect things in life far outweigh the pain and suffering. So essentially, life is what you make it, and so is death. Live your life exactly the way you want to, and death will take you when the time is right.
