 Smooth Jazz v98.7

1995 - 2009

On October 2, 2009 my favorite radio station, Smooth Jazz v98.7, bid it's farewell from the regular FM dial.  This station has been my life's soundtrack for many years -- the format a calm oasis while driving or when seeking to settle my spirit on an upset/lonely evening.  The station is still available -- but only via the Internet or an HD receiver.  Neither option of any help when I find myself dealing with angry drivers or stuck in a Motor City traffic jam, as I don't wish to upgrade my car stereo system at this time.  This may sound a bit dramatic, but I feel like a faithful friend has departed from my life.  After doing a little research I learned smooth jazz is a dying format. One by one, across the country, smooth jazz stations are disappearing from the FM landscape.

I realize I'm somewhat of an "odd bird" -- appreciating those things that no one else finds worthy.  I'm also an individual who seeks peace and tranquility.  In today's "hurry up" society a seeker of calm is looked down upon.  When feeling exhausted we are told to add another item to our "to do" list and all will be well.  The feelings and emotions we need to address and deal with continue to be shoved aside as we go through our day at the speed of light -- dropping into our beds, at nightfall, spent and exhausted.

The more things change --
the more I long for them to remain the same.

I know how you feel, I can relate. I've had two of my favorite oldies channels...change format and went to country music. Although I love country, I also loved my oldies channels...now there is none on my radio that I can find oldies. It makes me angry as I loved singing loud going down the highway with my growing up music, blegh!

I love soft jazz, too. I understand your dismay about the radio station ending, J. My sister and I used to LOVE a DC radio station that played all Motown all day long that ended, too. My sister taped the songs for me for about a month and sent them to me cassette form since I was overseas and this was way before anything fancier :) I still have those cassettes and appreciated her thoughtfulness!
