There is a loud buzzing noise coming from my computer tower (not the speakers). Of late it usually starts after watching a few minutes of video, or visiting a web page where there is a lot of animation. The sound is intermittent coming almost in bursts. Once it has started it doesn't seem to want to stop even when I close everything and move onto something simple like Wordpad. I have to shut off the computer and leave it off for a bit. I can usually get through about 2 or 3 minutes in a video before it starts. The first time I ever heard the noise was when I was running a Windows Defender scan. But now that program seems to have nothing to do with the sound coming and going. Any ideas??? |

This is only my guess and I am no expert. Sounds like it may be heating up. Is your fan working? My guess would be video card or maybe the hard drive is going bad. Any way you should back up all your important files with an external hard drive or a flash drive. Maybe even save everything to a disc incase the worst happens.

Thanks for the input anotherdaze. From my research I learned that a hard drive going bad usually makes a grinding noise, not a buzzing one. Yes the fan is working. This morning I backed up all my files on a CD just in case. For now I'm staying away from videos and all is quiet. Thanks again for your help.

It sounds like it could be 2 things. If it only happens with video it could be your video card. If it happens at other times, it sounds like your hard drive may be working and the fan kicks on. I would have to see it to know for sure.

I agree with the FAN being the issue. I had it where there was such a build up of dust ... it actually eventually stopped my fan working and the power pack burnt out!
cost me $100 .. maybe worth getting it "serviced" and cleaned??
good luck .. what would we do without you for a few days if it was serious??? :)

your tweeters may have gone in your speakers, when they go they are ok for a few mins then you get the white noise and distortion, and it will get better when you rest them but you will probably have to replace them.
Just guessing on assumption that they work the same way as normal speakers x

There is more than one fan in a computer, so one may be working and another one is struggling. That was one of the problems my computer had recently.
