| crazy LITTLE thing called love! |
The first two definitions for love from the dictionary are:
A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
I guess that would be a pretty good description of love, as it pertains to the “feelings” one may have towards a person, or even an object/hobby.
“Love” has been on my mind lately. Such a cute four letter word, yet such power, meaning and emotion behind it.
I have been mulling over a tweet that my previous pastor sent out recently.
“The world is divided into two groups—those aware that they are loved by God, and those unaware. Make no mistake, we are all loved by God.”—Rob Koke
I have found this to be such a powerful statement, yet so simple in it’s truth.
God’s desire is for us to have so much more than a “feeling” of love. His desire is for us to fully experience HIS love, to let it engulf & saturate our lives. For us to be aware of His love. That His love is less of a feeling & more revealing of His character. We are expressions of his love, so we too should have this “character” of love.
The biblical definition of love is:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
What a perfect description of what love is, but also what it is not.
I was remembering what life was like before I was in the “aware” group mentioned
above. I had never grown up really understanding what love was. There was not a
good role model of what that should look like and for MANY years I mistook sex for
love. That alone caused so much heartache and pain that I turned to drugs & alcohol
to numb it. It was a vicious cycle!
I had NO idea that God created me on purpose & that He loved me in a way that I
could not even begin to comprehend at the time.
He has since worked a miracle in my life and I now have a good understanding of His
love. I don’t believe that I will ever have a full knowledge of it while I am here on
this earth, but I know that I know that I know that I AM LOVED!
I want to be the person that always remembers where the “unaware” group is at and
continues to love them anyway! God did not give up on me (or you for that
matter), and if I am an expression of His love (and I am!), then He wants His love to
pour out of me—not as a “feeling”, but as part of my character.
God has REALLY tested me in this on many levels. It is one thing to say that you love
someone and quite another to let your actions show that it is true. The old verbage
“Actions speak louder than words”, really is true, especially in the eyes of God!
I just want to tell you that no matter what “group” you may currently be in, God
wants to take you to a new, deeper level! If you are aware of His love- he will take
you to new, different & more intimate places within Him. If you have not yet become
aware—He will put people & circumstances in your life that will guide you to His
amazing LOVE! Either way, MAKE NO MISTAKE- WE ARE ALL LOVED BY GOD!
As I am aware of His love for me & in me, I want to show to those who are unaware
and meet them right where they are at---just as Jesus did for me!!!
