| The House is on Fire |
There are those who say that this unemployment extension is not neccessary, that jobs are neccessary, you are only partly right. Your right that jobs are neccessary. But your wrong that the extension is not neccessary. Does the fire Department come up to a house on fire and say "no need to put it out, it's already burning? NO, They put the fire out to prevent it from spreading and causing further damage.
There are those on the far right who spin this in effort to agitate their fringe base in an effort to STOP Obama from enacting these programs. They fire people up telling them this raises their taxes. Instead of looking at the facts. The fact is no one's taxes pay for unemployment insurance. It is funded from employers who employed people who no longer have those jobs.
Many of those employers let people go in effort to outsource jobs, eliminate employees who likely worked too long and earned a higher wage. Sure some legitmately lost revenue in this economy through no fault of their own, But there still was a large number of employers who made decisions motivated by greed and did not care one bit about their employees. Do you think for one minute those car companies thought about their employees? Or those banks who down sized the employees while profiting themselves? Obviously they lost no sleep flying in corporate jets or vacationing on tax payers bail out bucks.
Begrudging the unemployed the assisstence of an extension in this economy is one more way
they keep us fighting at the trough, while they steal us blind.
My unemployment assisstence has ended and my life has become damned hard. I don't even care to go into the details. I do know that I am not alone. 1000's of us are struggling in ways that trully are unamerican. What I don't need are scores of ignorant whining that I am taking their tax dollars to subsidize my life. You are a paycheck away from this nightmare I am living. I sincerely hope you are able to avoid this circumstance. I find no solace in wishing this on any.
We have seen the very real results devastation perpetuated by desperate people who are unemployed. People driven to acts they would of previously not beleive they would find themselves in. Desperation that results in crime that does not assess the perpetuators motivation. I am not excusing crimes regardless of the motivation, merely indicating that every action creates a reaction. It is the fortunate who are employed, who always negate the desperation that is increasing. A man loses his job, his home and kills himself not before taking the lives of his wife and children. His desperation drove him, it was a permanent solution to temporary problems, Not a good choice but no one who has not faced the desperation can deny it's impact. I worked my whole life, having held only two jobs in my life. This last job for 25 years. To be told on a friday at 4:00 p.m. that AT 5:00 p.m. today your job is over. No, we are sorry, no severance, no 25 year watch or a party to create pretense that they cared. No retirement. Zip.
I applied for jobs in the field for which I hold a degree and heard over and over "HOW OLD DID YOU SAY YOU WERE?" I applied for minimum wage jobs in markets saturated with 100's like myself who were older displaced workers who could do no better than to find part time positions at Walmart for minimum wage that will not insure keeping a roof over your head or food on the table.
At the mercy of greedy corporate types whose bottom line is PROFITS ABOVE ALL ELSE. I have pondered extensivly the issues that confront us as Americans today. I have felt first hand the wrath of an economy that leaves behind a lot of good people. This unemployment extension is very neccessary.
True it is a band aid on a grievous wound. A wound that requires major surgery. As one of the wounded I appreciate the band aids…
