Why does everything have to be such a sham?
Why does everything have to be such a sham? It seems these days that every single company out there has figured out a way to make a buck. The credit card companies and cell phone companies figured out that if they go to 30 day billing cycles instead of just picking a set day of the month that they can squeeze one more payment out of you a year. Everywhere I turn it just seems that there is someone waiting there to try and get one over on me. I mean I like a lot of other people out there. I make decent money, I try and save, I cut back where I can, and still have yet to figure out how to frickin retire before the age of about 90. Every time I think I might have found a dollar to put towards something else, something else comes up and needs 2 dollars. It is just Murphy’s Law I guess. No need to fret over it. Just suck it up and keep counting down the days until my house is paid off and I can tell the ole boss man to have a good life.

So to the point of that entire rant; I get my cable bill in the mail yesterday, and oh look, it went up $35. So of course I call to see why. It seems that some promo rate I had gotten the last time my bill went up had expired and I was now paying the higher price for my services.

Okay I say, “What can you do for me now? What unneeded package do I need to sign up for just so I can have the Disney Channel?” This of course does not come with the basic package.

I already get my internet thru my cable company, which I must say works out well. Now apparently if I sign up for their new digital phone service I can get the Big Three Bundle and my bill will go down to $20 less than I was paying before. “Um, huh? Okay. And why can’t you just give me what I want at a decreased rate without me having to take off of work so I can be home to wait on the cable guy to come and hook up phone service that I really don’t want or need?” Oh she says, “Because we only offer these rates when you purchase the bundle”.

I mean, we had already let the land line go by the way side a few years ago because ma bell was costing a fortune and we really didn’t use it. I mean between personal cells, work cells and the kids having cells, we had 5 cell phones in the house and that is all that anyone ever called us on. So, goodbye ma bell, you no longer get my $65 a month.

So, today, I have to use 4 hrs of my leave, so I can go home and sit and wait for the cable guy to come and hook up a phone that I do not need or want, but must get to end up saving myself $20 month. Does any of this make any sense to anyone? It sure as heck doesn’t to me. I am not even planning on hooking a phone up to the damn jack. The only people that would call me on that number would be telemarketers. I realize that they are only trying to make a buck and I try to be nice to them and not all rude and stuff, but I just don’t want to bust my ass running thru the house and jumping over the cat and dodging the hot wheels to answer a ringing phone, only to find out it is someone taking a quick survey or some crap like that. Anyways, hopefully the cable guy will get there at the beginning of his time frame and I can actually use my hours off to do something fun, like lay out and work on my tan, but more than likely he will call 15 minutes before the last of his time frame to tell me he is running late, and I will have wasted my hard earned vacation time sitting on my couch, drinking coffee, and hoping there is a Charmed marathon one or something.

Good thoughts to all.
