 My Noble Steed
I am going to assume most people that read this have a car.

Growing up, like most kids, I thought one of the coolest things in the world would have to be driving. Eventually I found it was flying, but I still thought driving would be a close second. Even after braving Drivers Ed., I was mostly undaunted. The things I messed up on, I fixed. The things I didn't know about, I learned. I only spent four total hours driving. We did everything from switching lanes to parallel parking.

I figured that was a lot of time. It felt like a lot of time. It really wasn't, in the long run. Since I've been driving, about two months now (I'm terrible with dates), someone has almost rear-ended me, I've driven in to a ditch, I've almost had a head on collision with someone in my lane, which made me lose control of the vehicle. I also almost did something crazy when I thought the car was in drive and it was in reverse. Don't think I almost hit anything on that one though, it just startled me.

I've also almost run in to one deer, a pair of dogs (numerous times), one four legged creature I couldn't identify (he was tiny), and an owl. Yes, an owl.

But you know what? my good ol' trusty steed is still in one piece. Not a single piece of dented or missing bodywork for that matter. Which is good news, because if I wrecked the car, I'd be car-less. Not that I don't have insurance. Just retarded, cheap insurance. I love my car, but sometimes I wish I COULD find a way to destroy it or pawn it off.

It's a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix, Coupe. Very sporty. I love the way it looks. It's a luxury car, and in 1996, there's no doubt this was high luxury. It has a CD PLAYER! Standard! In '96! Well, maybe it wasn't standard, but it looks like it. Could be. Enough speculation though. The reason I am starting to dislike this car are problems a lot of people seem to suffer from. Let's start with the most annoying.

Every day I exit the school, go in to the parking lot, unlock the doors and am gagged at how hot the interior is. I expect this, this isn't a con. I put the key in, start up the electronics, and hit the down buttons on the side of the door for the windows. Every day, the result is the same. The drivers side door won't go down. It goes down in the morning. It goes down at night. But it will not go down when I want.

Now, think I've come to realize this is an issue with how the car works it's electronics. Sometimes the radio display won't show up. It does eventually, but on rare occasions, like twice a month, it won't light up. I think it might be the same story with the door. It's not like the window's out of place. I bet if I want outside right now and put the key in and tried to put the window down it would work.

I'll go see.

Oh, hey, imagine that, it works. It works because I don't need it. This wouldn't be a big deal, but somehow the control for where the air in the car blows broke today. I am going to crack the window tomorrow if it isn't cloudy, that should help. Now I've lost my train of thought. There's one other broken thing I can think of, but I am happy to say that it's not the cars electrical systems acting up. The right side fog light doesn't work. We changed the bulb. Still nothing. It sucks.

I guess I can't complain, Hell, I'm not really trying to. I'm glad I have a car, and a nice looking car. I could be driving that six hundred dollar one we saw. I wish I'd went with the Grand Am though. It was in nice condition, it just wasn't a color I liked. It was the ugly teal color with the tan interior. Mine has a dark-grayish interior, it's black, and the interior lights (the console and whatnot) are all illuminated in red.

All in all, I like the car. I probably would have liked it a lot more 189,000 miles ago. However, that also means I'd have to like it twelve years ago.I was, what, four years old? Ah, well, a car is a car, and regrets never did anything for anybody but drag them down.

Plus, it makes that neat sound when I accelerate.

PS: The entire post has suddenly become moot. Today (Sept. 18) I was driving to school and the temperature gauge was red-lining. Smoke started coming out of the vents, so I pulled over and shut it off and called to tell my Mom. It wouldn't start so I had to hitch a ride the rest of the way. Went back after school with my step-dad and there was water in the oil, so it turns out I've most likely seriously damaged the head gasket.

That means either I need a new engine or we have to take the engine apart and replace it. I'm not sure how much trouble/how much it would cost to replace the head gasket, but a refurbished 3100 is 900+ dollars off the internet. That's half of what I bought the entire car for. So, it's safe to say I am carless again, and will probably be so for a very long time.

You sound like a guy with a problem. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with your car. I had soooo many issues with my own and know its a royal pain in the butt. Good luck getting things on track again. :)
