ICHI THE KILLER-2001-Amazing and violent thriller from Takashi Miike. Two Yakuza groups fight over one of their missing bosses and the 100 million yen that disappeared with him. In the middle is Ichi, a seemingly idiotic hired killer with razor boots who literally slices people in half. He is tortured by the memories of bullies and the gang rape of his friend. But all isn’t what it seems to be. Some awesome graphic SFX highlight this unique feature but a brutal rape scene is hard to watch.
TRUE GAME OF DEATH-1981-Now this movie is bad but it’s also hysterical. Bruce Le portrays Bruce Lee who is poisoned by his wife but for some reason doesn’t die and comes back in disguise. Later he has to rescue her from gangsters. It’s all because the bad guys don’t want him doing a movie. It’s in bad taste I guess but it is funny! Le (a terrible fighter) made lots of movies with the name “Bruce” in them and directed some too. He may have been a stunt coordinator on MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 3 (there were 3 of them?) but he his last movie was in 1992.
NIGHT FRIGHT-1967-This made in Texas atrocity seems to feature scenes with a monster as an afterthought. It’s very very talky and way too dark. An extremely thin looking John Agar stars as a small town sheriff battling a killer mutant monster that came out of a secret government rocket crash. A lot of local teens (all very bad actors) are terrorized and Agar’s character almost loses it when one of them calls him “fuzz”(“Listen, punk. Don’t call me fuzz”). The grumbling monster looks like a man in an ape suit except for the head, which is very shiny and plastic looking and resembles a Klingon! An elaborate plan to capture the creature is mostly characters just sitting around waiting! Though the monster is suppose to be big and noisy victims don’t really notice him until he’s right on top of them! Larry Buchanan regular Bill Thurman plays Agar’s deputy who gets killed (Agar had been in 2 Buchanan messes himself). Screenwriter Russ Marker (who also has a role) had made THE YESTERDAY MACHINE but this is 10 times worst. Nothing happens! But what can you expect from a director (James A. Sullivan) who edited MANOS –HANDS OF FATE!! The same year Agar had a small role in Corman’s THE ST. VALENTINE’S DAY MASSACRE. It stinks but it makes me wonder if Dean R. Koontz saw this before writing “Watchers".

Great review. I've read one of Dean Koontz books. Title was "Icebound." They said this was unlike his other books because it dealt with politics, espionage, as well as mystery. I think most of his other books are scary ones like those of Stephen King. I'm just guessing.

I read a few of Koontz's early novels but I haven't read "Icebound". I like most of them but the last one of his I read "A Bad Place" was horrible.
