Today was quite a day. In trying to stay current on the political scene, I’ve been working on some parody songs to include in my Bush comedy performance.
In that vein, a couple of friends and I got together and wrote a song about Mike Huckabee entitled, “Friends from low poll places,” sung to the tune of the Garth brooks song of almost the same name. It’s a simple little song that starts with the lyric, “Blame it on CNN, and their liberal friends, for that youtube debate on TV.”
While in Atlanta I was reminded that CNN is based in Atlanta, and my friend Vince and I decided to go down there to promote the song, and you know, just see what would happen. We arrived at CNN headquarters, a truly impressive building in the heart of downtown Atlanta. I of course was dressed in character.
We turned a few heads and posed for a few photos, but nothing really came of it. We couldn’t get past the guard into the real headquarters without an appointment. I wasn’t really disappointed, because my philosophy is that we knock on the doors that seem appropriate, and trust God with the rest. Still, we decided that we would try again the next day(today). Last night while at dinner with some friends, my buddy Joel remembered that he has a friend who works at CNN. His friend was kind enough to provide us with a tour of the studio, newsroom and all.
As soon as we walked in the front door, I noticed on to gigantic jumbo screen overhead that President Bush was live in Israel, doing a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. He was wearing an almost identical tie to the one I had on.
When we went into the newsroom, people really started doing double takes, triple takes and generally being very excited, I guess partly because they had all been covering the president in Isreal all morning, and now it seemed here he was. A lot of people wanted pictures, everyone had a great time with it. I shook hands with dozens of people, and I never received one negative comment. Then I ended up actually interviewed on CNN international, which pretty much goes all around the world, by Isha Sesay, an anchor and reporter based at the global headquarters there in Atlanta. I was asked ( I begged) to perform my new song. As providence would have it, I brought my guitar. So check out the video, it's here on thoughts.com, and if you would, let me know what you think. God bless!
