| Afternoon Ceramics |
|
Today we had activities in the afternoon, and since I chose Ceramics, I spent almost three hours making a rose. It was really difficult to get the petals just right and wrap them around the centre, so I had to start again so many times just to get the centre perfect.
Teresa calls me a perfectionist, but I don't think so. My rose may look artificial, but it is , after all, made out of clay. At least my petals didn't get all stuck together into a messy bundle like Teresa's!
And the really ironic thing is that I don't even like pottery (basically ceramics) that much, because it feels really uncomfortable when it dries on your hands, and since I like, umm, peeling my fingernails, it hurts a lot when some wet clay seeps into my fingernail.
I don't know if any of you have had any experience before with clay, but let me tell you that not only is it very exausting, it's also incredibly easy to crack and, if you think you've almost finished a piece, be extra careful because it could form a huge crack in the middle and you'd have to start all over again.
I'm not saying that I don't like pottery, don't get me wrong. I like the finished product, which is all smooth and shiny (albeit covered in black spots), but the really annoying thing is that our school doesn't even have a kiln (oven) until next year, so all our work has to be smashed up in the end.
Only me and Teresa is saving our work by especially asking Mr Banter (the art teacher) if he could let us put it in the art room till it dries and take it home.
Not that the other people in this activity cares, of course, because all the others are just treating this activity period like free time, and just talk between themselves, producing silly pieces which they haven't put any effort into.
I'd be glad when the school in England decides to accept me so I can finally go somewhere civilised.
