 Wii 2/HD Blog: Welcome(first speculations)
Welcome to the Wii 2/HD blog.

I will be posting official and speculative information about the next Nintendo console that has been dubbed Wii 2/HD. Not much to go on at this point, but let's speculate together!

First off, some of us PC/all-platform gamers have heard of DirectX 11. Another attempt to bridge the gap between photo-realism and CG(computer generated) renders. DX 10 was marketed to bring us a step farther than PS3/Xbox 360, though newer cards can do this anyway by just increasing texture detail and such.

Also the fact that the Xbox 360/PS3 themselves were a large graphical disappointment due to them "not being much better in graphics" compared to other "graphic growthspurts".

Sure they are sharper, cleaner, and more detailed but the gameplay hasn't changed, except for one console...Wii! Wii changed gameplay principles by creating original mechanics, and bringing PC gameplay mechanics to consoles with mouse-like precision. Though where Wii was praised in gameplay, Wii was thrown-aside graphics-wise.

Many Graphics over Gameplay people just took one look at a game trailer and said to themselves "Ghetto" and went back to their graphics horde domains, usually hiding behind a PS3 or Xbox 360.

Many fans have asked for a "Wii HD" as in a HD compatible Wii, but Nintendo time and time
again has put-aside such requests and just answers "Our next console will be HD compatible, you'll have to wait then", but what is their next console? Many people call their next console "Wii HD or Wii 2" in the midst of all the confusion, but what will their console be like?

This is the exact reason for this blog. "Will Wii next/2/HD or whatever bring back what
Nintendo used to be, a player IN GRAPHICS as well as gameplay?". N64 out-graphically powered PS1. Gamecube bested in graphics to PS2, but with Nintendo losing money to a "inferior system" in their battle for similar or superior graphics, they lost. WII was what brought them back, instead of spending time out-graphics powering PS3/Xbox 360, they decide to OUT-GAMEPLAY the two competitors, and that is how they won.

GAMEPLAY, to many a myth and some a truth in the ways of making games "fun and enjoyable". Games on the Wii are unique most of the time with a few bursts of mere "PC Flash ports". Though will Wii 2/HD bring what most "true gamers" want? The unheard duo of "Graphics AND Gameplay"?

Can a console sequel to this generation's best seller bridge the "unseen gap" that many gamers who have lived throughout the gaming lifespan want?

And for this reason we go back, back to DirectX 11 and the slowing down of the graphical growthspurt.

Everyone knows NES was the first "successful" gaming console though many Atari fans will preach differently.

A picture of a typical NES game:

SNES:

N64: The bigger leap in introducing 3D to the gaming world, The BIG STEP into 3D Gaming!

Gamecube: Silkier, Smoother, but NOT a big leap.

Playstation 3/Xbox 360: Notice a major slowdown here?

PC: DirectX 10.1-and to think they say we're making good progress.

DirectX 11: The future frontier?!

Wii 2:

Will Wii 2 be along these lines? Will Wii 2 COMPETE IN GRAPHICS? I say they will, at least to the extent of an early released DirectX 11 since we have "been told" that we won't see the next consoles at least 'til 2012-2013. By then with Nintendo's almost unlimited amount of incoming cash THEY WILL be able to compete this time IN GRAPHICS!

GAMEPLAY saved them, but can it save them for much longer? GRAPHICS AND GAMEPLAY will decide the next console generation! No more Graphics hype, no more Gameplay hype, we need...BOTH!

I think that is it for now. I will be back next-time with more thoughts!
