All day long I've been thinking about Doug out there on his bike. Riding to raise money for MS. I think about his bad knee and all the training he did for this event. Was the training enough? Will his knee hold up? What about the head injury he suffered just a few short months ago. His doc told him that doing this ride was maybe not such a brilliant plan in view of the major bonk on the head he'd sustained. I hope he's okay.
So, why's he doing this? He's doing it for love, I think. One love. He's doing it to remember Sydney. Who? Sydney. She was a blogger here for a painfully short time. She had MS. It got the best of her. In the short time she was here, she touched us. We miss her.
Doug got this crazy idea in his head that he wanted to honour her somehow. He wanted to raise money to fight the insideous disease which claimed her. Sydney was a part of this awesome family. If you don't think Thoughts.com is a family, think again. To some of us, the bloggers of Thoughts are the only ones we know who really care about us and our lives.
We're really just a bunch of internet strangers. If not for Thoughts.com, we would live out our lives without ever knowing each other, never knowing what we were missing. And Doug would be most likely working this weekend instead of pouring out his blood, sweat, and heart to honour someone he's never met and never will.
Doug is out there right now, riding his bike. One hundred miles today, and another hundred tomorrow. I hope he makes it, but, even if he doesn't, I'm damn proud of that boy. He personifies what I believe Thoughts to be.
It doesn't get any better than this.
One love.
